15世紀、茶道とともに奈良で生まれた茶筌は、この地に製造技術が確立し、秘伝として伝承される。淡竹、黒竹、煤竹の強い繊維を利用し、小刀で竹を細かく（60～200本）裂いて穂先を作る。全国の茶筌の9割以上を生産してる。
In the 15th century, the production of chasen began with the development of the tea ceremony in Nara. Made of bamboo, the upper part splits into 80 to 200 fine splines. This region produces 90% of chasen in Japan.

Even something ‘mundane’ for everyday use is very beautiful when painstakingly hand crafted in ancient ways. This is one of the things I love about Japanese arts and crafts. And it is what I try to incorporate into my own work.

If I didn't know any better, I would've thought that bamboo is basically a material that can do anything. People make building bases, tools, weapons, and they even have drinks too I think. Hell, even clothes are sometimes made with bamboo. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if we later found out that bamboo can be used in space craft to travel faster than the speed of light.

It's not a matchstick. You will split this stick into a flexible stick and it will be part of the tool to make tea.
