Heidi, how do you keep the deer out of the hostas?

There are not deer at this trial garden.

I have been doing a good bit of hostas and I have a question. I have 3 that have white on the leaves and they seem to be losing the white. Do they need more sun to keep the white? One gets 1 hour morning sun and the others I had in shade. The full shade one is a fire and ice and it said shade. Just looking for guidance.

Some of them change as the season progresses. If whole eyes are coming up green I'd suggest digging it up, washing the dirt from roots, then cut the green eyes out and replant.

There is a chance that if it started off variegated and is now going to all green, it could be reverting back to the plant it originated as or parent plant. Di it out and pull it apart removing the solid green and replant the variegated plant. Hosta often do need to be split so this isnt a bad thing to do.
