A pawn that hasn't been moved yet can jump 2 squares instead of it's normal 1 square. If it jumps past an enemy pawn however it can be taken by the pawn it jumped. It's called "En Passant" Look it up on google. It's a fundamental chess move. Hope this helps.

En passant is a move in chess. It is a special pawn capture that can only occur immediately after a pawn makes a move of two squares from its starting square, and it could have been captured by an enemy pawn had it advanced only one square.

@-_Nuke_-
@-_Nuke_- 5 жыл бұрын
@@mark-ish Pawns are allowed to capture like that since the 1400s! Every time a pawn that moved 2 squares (and only then) lands adjacent to one of your own pawn (and only then), you can capture this enemy pawn En Passant. To capture En Passant you simply place your pawn behind your opponent's pawn and then take it off the board. This is the only time in chess that your pawns can kill an enemy pawn from behind! And you can only do that right away, if you waste a move (say... move your rook) and then your opponent plays something else and then you want to capture En Passant this is not allowed anymore, if you want to capture En Passant you have to do it right immediately (without wasting a move...).
@BUFU1610
@BUFU1610 5 жыл бұрын
I guess it comes from the fact that the option to move the pawn two steps in the beginning was only established to speed up the beginning and therefore it was considered "two moves of one step each" basically. so it would be a rule change from doing one step at a time to doing the short version if your opponent lost his chance to capture your pawn with his. something like that. makes sense to me. (but it doesn't explain why the other figures are not allowed to basically do the same thing... xD)

Carlsen giving the credit to luck in a chess game, one of the only games in history with 0% luck besides white/black pieces
@TTArt
@TTArt 5 жыл бұрын
Well you could consider it at least somewhat lucky if he plays an unclear combination, and only after playing it realizes he has a "perfect move" that completely saves his position. I thought it was his way of giving credit to his opponent that he was in a bit of a trouble, and had to play according to his words some "ugly" unclear moves, but still ended up in a superior position. Not because he could really see all the way through to the resulting position, but because he was able to find the resources afterwards.
