Never bled a clutch before and my '84 VT700C would still be collecting dust were it not for this video; much appreciated!

Thanks! I'm heading out to get a bit of tubing and some new fluid. The '96 VT1100C calls for DOT 4.

No,it's not the dust boot. In fact I still have my old master cylinder and the "boot" is still inside the old master cylinder as if it's being held in by something. The part is simply called "the boot" in both the official Honda manual and on Partsfish. I can make a video to show you what I am talking about. I am sure something is meant to hold it in place or that I have to push it in harder to make it stay. I just don't want to rip the boot.
@HTMR11 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the dust boot? The dust boot usually presses into place. As far as bleeding is concerned, sometimes vacuum bleeding is needed when system goes dry.

Amazing video...helped me save my clutch.

For the love of God, how do you change your spark plugs. I've tried multiple 18 mm sockets and none of them fit into the hole.

I buy the tubing at ACE. I buy Napa HD DOT 4 as is has the highest wet boiling point for the price.
@HTMR11 жыл бұрын
Often times the manual procedure will not bleed it. You'll have to vacuum bleed the system. Harbor freight sells one for $20. It should take about 3 fills or so with vacuum bleeder.

OK,my video called Shadow 1100VTC 1985 Master Cylinder Rebuild Question. is on my channel. Looking forward to your input. This bike needs to ride!

Love the vids, you have helped a lot. I’ve got a question that you may or may it be able to answer though and it’s, with a hydraulic clutch there is the master cyclinder, slave drive/piston, and rod that the slave drive pushes to engage the clutch. That rod has been getting stuck for me making it so the clutch is always engaged. I have tried cleaning the slave drive and just redid the whole clutch system. Do you think I should replace the slave drive or is it a master cyclinder issue?

No problem!

Great video,nice and clear view too. I have a question on mine though. I'm rebuilding my master cylinder. I got a new boot,push-rod, and bushing. However when I put it all together and try to bleed it,I get no resistance at all. I know it has something to do with the boot,as it doesn't stay in place. Each time I squeeze the lever, it comes back. Is the snap-ring suppose to be holding it in? In the manual it does not show it doing so though. I'm losing so much driving time over this!

So, the clutch fluid is nothing more than brake fluid?
@HTMR7 жыл бұрын
Yes, for this model.

I had to replace the bleeder screw the last one was stripped so I finally got it off and put the new bleeder screw on but now I have no resistance at all in the clutch
@HTMR8 жыл бұрын
+gnarly441 Try vacuum bleeding the system. The hydraulic clutches seem to be stubborn to bleed manually.

Using the vacumme bleader, it wont pull any fluid through. Is there something clogged in my line or the master/slave?
@HTMR3 жыл бұрын
Probably, take it all apart.

So I have the 86 VT700c and I have been going it the manual way for hours and I still cant get any pressure into it. I have been riding this bike for awhile so I know what it should feel like. All I did was drain the fluid and put new fluid in.
@HTMR9 жыл бұрын
skaterboi8494 I had the same thing happen to me trying to do a manual bleed. I had great success using a vacuum bleeder. Here is the one I have: amzn.to/1Gf2UCB However would buy this one in the future: amzn.to/1GOsQK6

MatthewMCRepair Well I ended up going to Harbor Freight and buying the first one you showed me before you had replied. The funny thing is that I saw the second one on the shelf right next to it and considered buying it. But I got the system working again but I couldnt get it quiet as firm as it used to be. I test rode it last night and got it up to riding temp and it seemed to do fine. I'm about to head out on another test ride because its about 90 where I am today. So anyway thanks for your help.

Matthew, I have an 84 shadow vt700c that I'm repairing and had a question about the piston vacuums in the carbs/diaphragms specifically. Could you help me figure out how to install new diaphragms on the slides? I dont want to wreck the slide or the connectors for the diaphragm boots. Any help is appreciated!

So was it the brake bleeder/vacuum pump that was the issue, or something on the bikes end? I'm on the fence about buying one of those pumps.
@HTMR8 жыл бұрын
The vacuum pump makes things go faster. Also, if you are starting with a dry system, them manual bleeding may not be enough.
@william6298 жыл бұрын
That pump has worked efficiently for you aside from this incident?
@HTMR8 жыл бұрын
The pump yes, the catch jar no. I ended up making a new catch can from a mason jar. I epoxied barbed fittings into the mason lid and it seals perfect.
@william6298 жыл бұрын
Thank you. One last question. Where did you get that Japanese bit in order to open the clutch master?
@HTMR8 жыл бұрын
I have since bought dedicated JIS screwdrivers. I highly recommend this one: amzn.to/29ckbFN

Sorry, but I didn't see or hear WHAT kind of fluid you were using. You said "DOT-3" at one point......so is that BRAKE fluid you're using??
@endeavorrv7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's dot 3 brake fluid. I have an 85 Shadow and it's the same.

Nick, you might have to vacuum bleed it. Sometimes manually does not cut it.
