Complementary for sure. The colors look more vibrant and realistic
@Archenemy9522 күн бұрын
I think you mean analogous, which enhances each other (they’re similar colors). Complementary are opposites so they cancel out and tend towards a muddy brown. You mix complementary colors to neutralize and to make it LESS vibrant.

@@Archenemy95 i think the complementary looks less vibrant but more realistic with the shadow

Exactly! I agree. I see that she is using watercolor, but does using the complementary color also work when using different mediums? Like oil/acrylic paint, mostly. Also gouache (because oil paint is so expensive 😭) nice cherry btw

Thanks such for sharing your knowledge. I have just started back painting after a 40 year hiatus. I am now 80, retired and can still see so learning new stuff is great entertainment for me. Thank you thank you❗️

You just need more practise, a person who paints a lot will be able to see the different quickly and easily.

Try blurring your eyes or squinting. That's usually how I can see the difference.

The green makes the cherry look unappetizing to me. It reads unripe at best and mold at worst. I would go with a neutral gray instead of black, personally. The blue is my second favorite

I’ll be honest I liked the look of black before it was shaded/dried into the rest of the cherry A darker black shade would look really nice there

I think using the green as a shadow looks the most realistic. Using the red-violet looks the most like a graphic design example or even suitable for cartoons and illustrations where everything is bright and fresh. I stay away from black as a shadow color because it’s usually too harsh, but you blended it nicely. The blue definitely gave the red a pop, but I think blue can become too purple with red glazes. Just my opinion! ❤ Love your teaching style!
