We all have those games that stick in our memory yet, never really get talked about all that much.... Shadowman is the perfect example of one of those games.
After its recent remaster I have decided to dig deep into the history of this often forgotten classic from the N64, PC, and DREAMCAST era! (notice how I did not mention the PS1 version... NO ONE SHOULD MENTION THAT VERSION!!!!!)
Of course, we also take a look at the character's origins from the Valiant Comic days and the even more often forgotten sequel too for the Playstation 2, Shadow Man 2: Second coming!
If you guys would like more info on the messed-up origins of the villains from that original game, I highly suggest checking out N64 Glen Plant... a fantastic channel that is well worth subscribing to if you are a fan of N64... probably the best channel on YT for that system (tell him SLOPE sent you :D) ‪@n64glennplant‬ • Shadow Man's REAL LIFE...

I’m really happy that people are starting to talk about this amazing gem of a game. I was only 5 years old and was playing this game on the N64. I didn’t bought the game or anything, because it was my older sister console and seeing that game cartridge had my curiosity about the game. This game, was the game that got me into horror games/ serial killers/ horror movies at a very young age. Even extreme heavy music. This game is something to me and I’m happy that you made this.

This is my favorite game of all time I've played this with my dad when I was a little kid and beat it with him on Nintendo 64. I own Shadow Man on PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, and Steam (Shadow Man 2013 and Shadow Man Remastered). I even have Shadow Man 2econd Coming on PlayStation 2. I'm trying to get Shadowman Remastered on Nintendo Switch and Xbox One and once I get a PlayStation 4, I'm going to get it on that too. Im also trying to get the original pc 1999 version.

A classic episode feeling and I'm glad I came back to it after initially skipping since I barely remember the games. Really reminds me of the content I originally subscribed for going into the development team and in this case the highlights were firstly hearing more about your old job and the kinds of games you played, your lifestyle back then and secondly the Valiant comics (and the fact they were purchased by Acclaim which I so-often forget) properties of the time. Of course, I'm always anticipating the longer vids of well-known series, particularly the Sega content, but videos like this really take me back to the Nineties

Yeah I lost the map from the box. The halls of Shadows were a nightmare. I finished the game but never found the vase weapon to smash those floor tiles. There was a ledge I just couldn't get to in the halls. But it's great you could still finish the game without items or tattoos. Surprised people don't speed run it. Plus fun fact the shadow gates were based on air con pipes.

As far as I remember the PS version and the PC version had the same bugs: Getting stuck on scenery, missing walls, missing rooms, falling into a blue void thanks to missing walls and rooms, random crashes, and a lot more. But even with all those flaws they were fun versions. And as stated in the video, it is the story that shines. It sucks you in and wants you to see more. Hell, I was so addicted to this game I actually bought a Dreamcast just to play a bugfreeish version ;)

What a amazing facts overload video of a fascinating video game👍🙏One I played & a rare completion of on the N64! The Serial killer/vodoo concept was alluring & the game was outstanding in many respects! Even though the developers vision outstretched the N64 hardware as often the case for all systems the graphics were pretty amazing back in the day just like Turok! Easy to look back with a critical eye on the 3D platforming genre & scoff at its roughness but it's a you had to be there kinda love for this game & many more🖤!... Amazing video.Really enjoyed the trip down memory lane & maybe a dabble with the dark forces is not too far away in the remaster ☠️🙏👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Thanks for another great video, mate. Shadow Man is one of the few games I played through more than once in my life. I actually played it all the way 3 times. Funny enough my first time with the game was with the rough Ps1 version (which I decided to get because the game looked so interesting from the articles I had read on Nintendo magazines and the PS1 was the cheaper and more accessible version I could get at the time). That version had so many gameplay issues but the atmosphere, story and level design all kept me interested to the end. I really liked the game even with all the flaws that the PS1 version had (although the music and overall sounds in it are better than the other versions in my opinion). A few years later I was able to get the N64 version of the game for 5 bucks on eBay. Bought it, played it all the way through again and loved it. It was much much better than the PS1 version. Finally, a few years later I managed to grab the Dreamcast version for 10 bucks and also played that through too and it was the best experience overall. I’m currently waiting to buy the remastered one and play it all over again.😅 Now, regarding the sequel, even though I admit it is not on the same level of the first game, and I do dislike some of the characters designs changes, I do really like it, it’s not perfect at all but it still has a lot of atmosphere, I love the environments and the use of color and light in it and the gameplay is smoother than in the original game. It’s among my favourite games on the PS2 and I’ve played it through twice already and will probably play it again once I finish the remastered version of the first one.😅

Back in ‘99 I was at Toys R Us just checking out the games, and Shadow Man for N64 caught my eye. I dropped the 60 smackers on it, went home, and started playing it. Blurry resolution and all, I fell in love with it. Then I happened to see on the box that it supported the 4MB RAM Pak so the next day I picked one up and HOLY CHRIST what a difference. I played this game for at least 20 hours straight, in utter amazement that they were able to fit this monstrosity onto a single N64 cart. Couple days later, I eventually beat it, and how satisfying it was!! A few years later, the Dreamcast version was released, and without hesitation, I picked up one. Warm fuzzy memories (and terror) repeated itself, as IMO the DC version is the one to own. Sure there was very frustrating moments: getting caught on a ramp’s railings when trying to run and escape from those chainsaw fuckers in Asylum- collision detection was a bit wonky in spots. Then there was the sheer difficulty of some of the jumps- it really was a relief when you were able to clear a jump without landing in fire or lava (before you got the Marcher and Nager Gads, of course) Overall though, these are very minor on the grand scheme of things. Shadow Man is easily a top-ten game of all time for me. Thanks for the video, I’m glad it was suggested!

I have loved this game ever since it came out and try to play it once every year. As much as I love Soul Reaver (and LoK lore in general), in terms of story, level design & overall creepiness, this is the by far the better game. I mean the person who thought up the cathedral of pain was crazy and genius at the same time. The structure and look of that place, how it all interconnects once you get all your powers and can go anywhere, is brilliantly executed…and then there’s the classical music which makes for an even darker vibe in certain places, it’s all too good to be true…it’s my fav pre 2000 3D action game of all time.

I live in the UK and am in my 40s, and in the 90s owned a N64 yup I was one of them sort, as I was all about power. I never liked/appreciated the ps1 graphics at that time compared to the N64 I probably upset a few people there. The only game I did like on the ps1 was wipe out, but to regain the people I lost there, I did go from the N64 to the ps2 once again all about the power, anyway back to the topic. I remember the advert for shadowman on the TV in the 90s, and omg I was so hyped for this game, it was like the developers had made a game especially for me, remember this was cutting edge graphics at that time, there was also a gaming program on TV I can't remember the name, a day or 2 after I saw the advert, it had an interview with the developers talking about the game which had me even more hyped. I gathered my dosh together on release day jumped on my mountain bike and rode to the shop to perchance the game, I must have been about 19 or 20. I got home fired it up, the thing that was in my hand that is, stuck the game in, and I played till the next morning. The atmosphere of the game was second to none, and at that time it just felt like we were in the golden era of games because ocarina of time came out not long after that if I remember rightly, and I guess its these games which has made me the gamer I am today. I am currently a pc gamer all about the power. I just wish games of today could capture some of that atmosphere games had back then. Sorry for the long comment but I think shadowman deserves it. 🇬🇧🥇🙏

Excellent game. If I had all the money in the world, I'd invest in gathering the old team with new people and have them release a new game based on the bad ending with revisiting some old areas with new additions and secret paths to new locations withing those places, just to see the old areas done with the most current technology and add a VR version, not just for this but somehow make the old game a VR too, because im sure, just like myself, a lot of the original game fans would love to see both new and old in VR, as the real first person experience inside the world, instead of a monitor

There was a gem on PS1 called Wu Tang Shaolin Style that used a rare and unique engine to create a one of a kind game with unique fighting style and controls. From my research, the engine was developed for an earlier fighting game called Thrill Kill that was banned and never completed. I've always wanted another game to be made using that engine.

I never played this game. I saw a lot about it in magazines back when it was released but I never got to play it. Since it's initial release I saw very little about it and eventually forgot all about it even existing. It was only till AVGN did a video on it that I remembered reading about it back in the day before release.

Ill bet the boss who dressed like a repo man, may have been based on Henry Lee Lucas. Who actually had a movie made about him, although it didnt get a wide release at the time back in the late 80s. The movie is actually pretty good, you just have to accept what it is, and cant expect a happy ending.

This game is really amazing, only played the demo as a teen but the remake really showed me what I was missing out. A modern version would've fleshed out the world and story a bit better maybe but the desolate feel and the macabre feeling and hopeless dispair are captured well in these primitive graphics enhanced by the score that can be very disturbing at times.
