in shadow of the colossus, there are two out of the sixteen bosses there are two that aren't really "colossus" while the literal tallest is a skyscraper in terms of vertical height. there was also originally gonna be like. 48 different colossal bosses but soon was cut down to 24 then to the sixteen bosses we have in the game

So fun fact about this game is it’s actually part of a series. It’s heavily implied to be the prequel to Ico which is made by the same people behind Shadow of the Colossus. I recommend checking out Ico as well, both of these games are absolutely beautiful. Same with The Last Guardian.

It’s an amazing game for sure, but don’t let the story portion be overhyped. The game follows the same concept as a piece of art-in which you try to figure out the story by looking deeply at the painting, and creating your own narrative of it. In its time, this game was one; if not, the main game that defined in many the question if videogames could be considered pieces of art. Videogames were considered children’s toys back in those days so games like these ones began to alter adults perceptions of videogames.

This is a game that is truly art, you play as Wander. He is trying to revive his love interest after she was sacrificed (I think it’s very vague). He steals a magic sword and travels to a forbidden land, makes a deal with a mysterious being known as Darmin. The deal is kill 16 colossi and Darmin will bring Mono (love interest back) also your horse is named Agro

This isn't a spoiler, since it's set up at the beginning of the game. Shadow of the Colossus is basically about going to a forbidden land and making a deal with a questionable "god"; slay the 16 Colossi that dwell around in exchange for bringing the girl back to life. It's a beautiful game and story, and I recommend checking it out sometime, either by playing or watching.

I bought this game for the PS2 on a whim because I thought the box art looked cool. I knew *nothing* about it at all. I assumed the box art (a guy on a horse fighting an impossibily huge monster) was exaggerated and the actual game would never live up to it. It did. And more. I was obsessed. I'd stay up until the wee small hours playing. It was the game that made me want to study games academically, it's the game that absolutely settled the question of, "are games art?" I ran to buy the remake when it came out. This game is SO special to me and I'm tickled to see you react to it.

The story is the boy takes a loved one to a forbidden land with these godlike colossuses. The girl is dead and a god/voice in the temple tells you that the only way to resurrect her is to find and kill all these colossuses. The gameplay is how the trailers show: you literally climb them and stab their glowing spots repeatedly until they die and most colossuses are passive until you attack them. There’s a bit more of the story but that’s all you need to know for the beginning

Yep, the PS4 version is a remake of a PS2 game. The game was an incredible technical achievement back then, just for the sheer scale. The reamke is all of that plus 10x the pretty of the original. It's amazing. Story wise, it's very VERY minimalist. The game gives you almost nothing, leaves a lot of it up to you to decide. The protagonist never gets a name, only referred to as "Wander" in material (Japanese title of the game is "The Wanderer and the Colossus). The girl is Mono, and she's dead. The second "trailer" you watched is actually the pre-title cutscene that takes you to the main menu. Starting a new game continues from there into the Shrine and the scene where he places her on the altar. From what is said and shown in game you learn that Mono died for reasons not said (she's only said to have had a "cursed fate"). Legends say that Dormin, an entity of unknown nature that resides in those lands, can revive the dead. So now Wander is there to have her revived, despite the people where he is from believing such is evil and unnatural. Dormin tasks Wander with killing the 16 Colossi that roam the lands, in exchange for bringing her back. What's interesting about the Colossi is that many of them won't attack you until you attack them, first. And one of them never attacks you even as you're trying to kill it. A lot of people who play actually start to feel bad for the Colossi as a result. But yeah, that's basically all we know of the story. Mono dies, Wander wants to bring her back, and seeks ancient god-like entity to do so in defiance of his own culture.

This is absolutely a game you MUST play. It's a short one too - it should be only about 5-7 hours max, so it's suitable for a few streams. The story is "barebones" as it's told through the actual gameplay and the imagery. Everyone speaks a fictional language and most of the dialogue is prophecies you hear. The Colossi are indeed bleeding this black smokelike energy. They are the only enemies in the game - 16 in total - and you have to search for them out in the world in a specific order. Each one is like a giant puzzle you have to solve rather than a monster you have to kill. I won't go into any details about the story. This is not a game, it's an EXPERIENCE.

The original game was one of the only games that I've played to completion over and over again. The remake is probably one of the most gorgeous remakes of a game, but it's so hauntingly beautiful that I think it holds up as a PS2 game. The only other remakes that come close are probably the Final Fantasy 7 and Demon's Souls (also remade by the same development team, Bluepoint) ones. As you mentioned, it has an incredibly isolated and lonely atmosphere due to the fact that the only characters throughout most of the game are Wander (you), Argo (horse), the comatose (dead?) lady friend of yours, and the 16 Colossi that you face are contrasted with such a vast, yet empty environment, consisting of deep valleys, expansive wastelands and plains, and mountainous ranges. The accolade of "Masterpiece" is well deserved, considering how it drew so many fans to search for over a decade, almost up until the actual remake in 2018, for what they thought was a final secret in the game. The storytelling is akin to how Dark Souls tells its story, but EVEN MORE obscure and that drove so many people on that mad, blind hunt for more, long past the original game's heyday. A lot of people doubted the existence of anything special, but the ones who did look looked not because they knew there was something, but because the act of it was alike to religious faith, believing in something even if they had no proof. Ultimately, it did end in failure because there was nothing more, just content that was omitted, but when the remake finally happened, the developers were so inspired by that journey that they actually added one final secret as a tribute to the fans. The man who originally started that search unfortunately passed away just before the remake was released and it was such a tragedy that he never got to experience it. It's almost fitting to the theme of the game. My apologies--I don't think most of what I said had anything to do with the actual game or gameplay, but my gosh, the nostalgia is hitting really hard haha. Fond memories of this game. I really hope you guys get to actually play this one some day. It's quite the experience.

Shadow of the Collosus, one of THE go-to games for displaying that games can be a form of art. While not as graphically impressive, they managed to make a huge empty open world supwr engaging, because it fits the theme so well. The loniness you get is intentional, but oddly drives you forward. The plot is complex enough to wonder about, but not so much so that you lose its meaning. Its just an amazing game.

Three games, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian: Art, tremendously immersive, unbelievably emotional storytelling, and all basically as you saw here. All three are minimalist excellence in action, and dialog. They must be experienced. Unfortunately, ICO never made the move past the PS3, maybe someday via PS+, but the remaining two are available for the PS4/PS5 and more than deserve a place on anyone's To-Be-Played pile. The games exist in the same world, but, most likely decades. or centuries, apart. There really is nothing like these games, or, at least, nothing this well done, like these games. A truly unforgettable experience, to play, or watch being played.

Even the original holds up today. I can't believe the game ever functioned on a PS2 in 2005

This game was just as beautiful on the playstation 2. The basic story is that you bring a dead girl (mono) as seen in vid to the shrine in attempt to revive her. You end up getting sent to kill the colossi around the land but I won't spoil why or what happens at end

If my record of this game is that this game came out in 2001 with early or late or PlayStation 1 era of gaming thar branch out big open world game. As it gotten a remake by hearing and witness gamers wanting to play their classic game in more detail approach. Also a fellow KZfaqr name Jacksepticeye played both versions on his channel and had a blast playing the game. 😄 I hope you both give it a try and have fun.

They should have sent you the ads that acted as fake videos. There was one where they make it look as if a news crew discovered a real colossus at a beach.

On nice this is such a cool game I loved it when i played years ago its one of those games that leaves the interpretation mostly up to you're imagination to the point where hundreds of people made it their mission to find all sorts of glitches into hidden lvls trying to find alternate/secret endings I highly recommend that you guys play it aswell as The last guardian which is its spiritual sequel.

This is my favorite game ever made! It’s truly a compelling and powerful story accompanied by outrageously fun and intense gameplay! Strongly recommend the PS4 remake, it takes the graphics and optimization to a whole new level. Truly incredible experience (I also strongly recommend the other games created by team Ico, which are Ico and The Last Guardian. Ico came out before SotC, and TLG came out after SotC!)

This game is one of many favourites, it's beautiful and story is pretty small but very good. He brought her to this temple to save her. And yes, there is no other interactions, exept for the horse and the enemies colossus. This young man have a sword that can kill a colossus. "The black smoke" is pretty much their "soul" sipping out I do recomend playing it. There is no other eneimes in the game, only the colossuses.

I bloody loved this game as a kid. my only complaint is that it felt empty because I never saw any wildlife while exploring the map but it's only a minor problem for me. other than that, it tickles all the right spots. an amazing story, giant boss fights, gorgeous architecture, etc

The ending to this game is heartbreaking. A terrible slaughter of innocent creatures, all for a reunion that never truly comes to be.
