Lyrics:
I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away
Sometimes solutions aren't so simple
Sometimes goodbye's the only way
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
In cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay
Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple
Sometimes goodbye's the only way
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you

In November 2014 I stood with my 17 year old son and watched LP play this song live. 3 months later he was diagnosed with leukaemia, and 8 months after that he died in my arms aged 18. I had this song played at his funeral. Sometimes goodbye's the only way. Miss you son. Miss you Chester.

I remember when I heard the song Crawling on the radio for the first time and I was hooked. Linkin Park was my favorite from that moment on and I still listen to many of his songs daily. I was crushed when he passed but his music still gets me through some tough times. Especially the live version of Crawling/ one last light and it still brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it but it gets me through when I'm feeling like my own walls are closing in and I struggle to find myself again. I don't think I'll ever stop listening to his music, just wish he would've stayed with us and made more music

Damn. What a fucking bummer. We may joke and take the piss out of Linkin Park nowadays, whether for the new sound or laughing at how we were angsty little shits back when we listened to them everyday, but they really meant a lot. A little bit of a story, I was at this shoot. I didn't work on it, I wasn't an extra, I had nothing to do with it, I just was fortunate enough to be able to visit the set. I was back then, real young, like before highschool young. And LP were the first band I had ever really fallen in love with, enough to follow and learn about. The first band I got made fun of for loving. The first band I stood up for. And I can remember meeting Chester there and talking with him, not just for a couple minutes, but for like 30-40 while they were setting up and taking a break. And maybe it wasn't really a back and forth, me some young dumb kid, but I remember how happy Chester was to stay and talk with me, to answer any questions and just tell me things. Where was this guy I looked up to and respected massively, and he was. happy to talk to me for however long I needed. He had the time and he gave it to me. And then a few months later I was lucky enough to see them and I got close enough to the stage so that during one point in the set he saw me and came over and waved to say hey. He remembered me. One more fan in tens of thousands, and he remembered. This sounds like I'm trying to make myself out as special, that's not what this is, this is me saying how cool Chester was. A dude who remembered you and wanted to talk to fans and turn them from fans to friends. I just got lucky. I'm sure there are tons of others with similar stories, that seemed like the sort of guy he was, a genuine person. I may not listen to them anymore, I'm sure many people don't who used to love them, they were a certain sound for a certain time. But goddamn were they an important sound for us at that time. A sound that said you weren't alone in this shitty situation. So maybe, for us who grew up with them reinventing and playing an important part in the sound of early 2000's, the new stuff isn't great, but maybe that's because it's not for us. Perhaps their reinventions were for the kids who came after us, the kids who needed their own version of the stuff we had, not with angsty vocals and guitars, but with pop and such. And for those kids, maybe those new albums are as important as Hybrid and Meteora were for us. I mean shit, if Stormzy has respect for them, that's gotta mean their new sound is doing something right. This has all gone on longer then I meant it to when I started writing it, but I guess in writing it I'm realizing how important they really were for me, even after all this time - hell, I should have already know the way me and friends were drunkenly get hyped when these old bangers came on in a club. I guess this is all just to say, thank you Chester, thank you for making Linkin Park such an important part of our lives. I'll miss you man

I was just 24 when "Shadow of the Day" came out in 2007, and it's a song that will forever hold a special place in my heart. That year, my older brother tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident. He was always the one I looked up to, the person who guided me through life's ups and downs. The lyrics of this song resonated with me during those dark days, as I struggled to come to terms with my brother's sudden departure. The line "Sometimes solutions aren't so simple, sometimes goodbye's the only way" hit especially hard. I found solace in Chester's voice and the raw emotion he conveyed, giving a voice to the pain I was feeling inside. Now, whenever I listen to "Shadow of the Day," it serves as a reminder of my brother's love, his laughter, and the way he lived his life to the fullest. It's been more than a decade, but the song still brings a tear to my eye, while also providing me with a sense of comfort. I'm grateful to Linkin Park for creating a song that has helped me through the most challenging time of my life, and I know there are countless others who have found solace in their music as well. Rest in peace, my beloved brother, and to Chester Bennington, two beautiful souls gone too soon. Your memories and your music will live on forever.

I've grown tired of the endless cycle of suffering, this song puts things so perfectly for us battling our demons. Some of us ultimately pull the trigger when we've had enough. I fear that my time is now. It's bittersweet with a sprinkle of melancholy happiness; finality to this endless suffering. By no longer breathing, I can finally breathe. Sometimes goodbye is the only way.

reshika kk couldn't have agreed more. Life more than that. It's precious. For me, linkin park helped me so much when I was angry, depressed, upset for not knowing what I wanted to do with my life and I listen to the music and after I feel better, listening to the lyrics now it's clear as day what Chester was going through and I'm just sad there wasn't the same thing there to help him with what he was going through. To me linking park is more than a band. And always will be. R.i.p Chester ❤️

If anybody from Linkin Park reads this comment, I just want to let y’all know that your music will never die. You guys helped shape a lot of lives my own included, I’ve been listening to you guys since I was a baby. It’s been nearly 6 years since Chester left us, and despite all of the hardship and tragedy everyone went through, your guys’ music was there, being listened to, helping everyone through tough times. He may have left us all alone down here, but I’m sure he’s happy up there wherever he is, because he left behind one hell of a legacy. Thank you for your time and I hope everyone is doing okay.

When I was in freshman year (my last year at the special ed school), I had a classmate named Sophia that'd been my classmate since fifth grade. She was the only girl in class for a long time, and she was also OBSESSED with this band. One time our teacher left on the regular radio instead of the classical radio she usually did and promptly left the room for ten minutes. This song came on around three minutes later, and she started jumping around in joy. The class immediately went into a fight about whether this was actually linkin park or not, and she demanded all of us to walk over to the teacher's desk and pointed that it was VERY OBVIOUSLY a Linkin Park song on the radio. I joked that someone had stolen the name and was releasing songs under the name of Linkin Park, and Sophia responded with "Oh so the frontman of the knockoff band ripped out Chester's vocal cords and are using them now too?" We were still fighting by the time the teacher came into the room, even though the song had ended 2 minutes prior It's one of my clearest memories of my pre-mainstream special ed school years. I decided to meet up with my freshman year friends for the first time in ten years, and when Sophia didn't show up I got the heartbreaking news that she'd overdosed on sleeping pills in a violent rage just a few weeks prior.

Right on. linkin park's lyrics since hybrid theory has always been on the angsty/depressing side. It's only recently that their 'sound' became lighter. Looking back and re-listening to Hybrid theory and Meteora again, it's actually pretty fucking sad now... rest well indeed.

aimannorzahariwod Actually One More Light is as dark as the older albums, lyrically seen. It feels like a "Goodbye album"... I wonder if he saw that coming, that his life would end soon and therefore he wanted to make a last and completely different album as his final work which makes it even harder to handle the criticism for it. I think the last album was really special to him and he really made up his mind about it :'(

The message this video is trying to conceive is that all around us is constant violence and dangers of real life, gang crimes, police brutality, animal cruelty, race wars, etc., and the fact that Chester is shown walking through it all without so much of a single blink of an eye comes to show how all of us have grown so used to this everyday lifestyle that we are all living in, that we simply walk by it all without a single spark of sympathy come up in our minds. People are always quick to blame society for all the world's problems, but what most of us don't realize, is that we ARE society. There's nobody else to blame but ourselves..

2014 I was in 4th grade, our teacher gave us an assignment to draw something, I remembered this song because it goes hard to my heart, then inspired by the title of this song, I started drawing an empty room with one window that looked at a hill and there was light coming in through the window to illuminate the room. I don't know why and it might sound unreasonable, but every time I hear this song, I always feel that I am in that room and this song seems to give me encouragement that there is still hope.
