Man, Sega had some balls to make a game where Eggman is straight up killed 3 times. Can you imagine a Super Mario Bros. game where Wario kills Bowser?

Here’s what I would’ve done: After each ending’s end credits sequence, You get a beautifully drawn mural depicting the outcome of your choices. For example, if you chose to overthrow Eggman, you’d sit on a metal throne commanding his army. If you choose to be a hero, you get a re-creation of the final image from Sonic Adventure 2. Etc. That way you’d really feel like your choices made a difference since you get to see a glimpse of what the sonic timeline would’ve been like if you made these choices.

My favorite ending is the one where Shadow joins the Black Arms at the last minute just to be a dick to Sonic. “I AM THE MOST POWERFUL HEDGEHOG IN THE WORLD!”

I love that in the ending with vector his delivery is so different, so somber, unlike all the other ones, shadow isn't motivated to do anything else

Btw: That "Goodbye forever... Shadow the Hedgehog" by Shadow himself didn't mean that he is a android and not the original one. He's just saying goodbye to his past and turning over a new leaf. What a badass.

People always write this game off because "hur, hedgehog has pew pew" but this along with the adventure games were really ambitious games. It was clear these were made with passion, and honestly I love them.

In hindsight, I like how they did the story in the game. Shadow starts off oblivious to who he is or supposed to be, has different paths where he tries and succeeds in learning an interpretation of who he is, and the secret ending has him deal with the loose ends of the past to allow himself to move on and focus on the future instead.

I am shadow the Hedgehog, and I have spent over 1000 hours trying to get all the endings... this is who I am.

My favorite endings are the neutral hero and the pure hero-dark endings. 0:00 The idea of Shadow and Omega teaming up to destroy Eggman and take control of his fleet, as well as the world (one where androids rule) sounds rather interesting to me. I wouldn't mind a comic or story about this 6:27 Shadow ends up being confident and happy, confirming his role as ultimate lifeform. His laugh also isn't evil here, but rather a triumphant, gleeful one (same with the music). I think even sonic notices this, as he seems more chipper when he's defeated, and even chuckles. And I like to think that he's happy for shadow in the end. 🙂

Semi-Hero Dark Ending is also my personal favorite. He makes peace with himself, now trying to live on for Maria. He's most likely distanced himself from the people who tried taking him down, and at this point is just going to find his place in all this. Something about the Pure Hero (Dark) Ending really sticks with me in a silly way. Something about Shadow wanting to be better than Sonic regardless of what threat appears makes me happy, even if it's not in-character with modern Shadow. It's more in-character with SA2 "I'm the coolest!" Shadow. He's not relevant anymore, but something about how being The Best, being The Coolest makes me smile.

My personal favourite is the ending where he stays on the ARC. This is Shadow rejecting his future and embracing his past, not entirely sure if it counts as a negative arc or not though since he doesn't necessarily end up worse off than he already was. But also rejects a life of heroism. This games story would be pretty ok if not for the fact that Sonic adventure 2 already introduced and resolved Shadows arc far better than any othet game did.

Pure Hero - Dark Ending is my personal favorite.

Personally, I feel like, since the Dark mission for the Neutral final level has you help Eggman, that final boss should've been a test for Shadow, who convinced himself he was an android. The Neutral Dark ending should've been Eggman promoting Shadow to a higher rank. The Semi-Hero Hero Ending precedes Vector's infamous meme "Find the computer room!" Yes, that's the Hero mission of the Semi-Hero final level. It and the battle against Black Doom take place in the computer room, but afterwards, Shadow suffers mentally. One of the paths to that ending even implies that Shadow *takes his own life* after it fades to black. GUN Fortress, the Pure Dark final level, shows that it's too late for Shadow to turn around. The Pure Dark - Dark ending isn't even what Black Doom wanted. It's what Gerald Robotnik wanted back in Sonic Adventure 2, to destroy the world. The Pure Dark - Hero ending is more Shadow backstabbing Black Doom and being an even more evil ruler. Black Doom does not get his way in either of the Pure Dark endings. He gets his way in the Semi-Dark - Dark ending, where Shadow serves him loyally. The Pure Hero - Dark ending could be interpreted as a friendly sparring match, after which Sonic and Shadow take out Black Doom. Alternatively, it could be that Shadow is so obsessed with being Sonic's rival that he'll oppose him no matter what. The Semi-Hero Dark ending is the only one with Eggman and the Egg Dealer as the final boss that doesn't end with Shadow *killing Eggman with a karate chop* . He apparently values his birthplace and wants to stay there for the rest of his life, which could be forever. Him killing Eggman in the Neutral - Hero makes sense, as E-123 Omega would want that, and he's Shadow's partner. The Semi-Dark Hero ending is where Shadow decides not to listen to anyone other than himself.

I absolutely adore the Pure Hero Dark ending. Like, the world is basically saved, just one final push and the threat is gone forever, and Shadow just decides to fuck with Sonic one more time for his own amusement before presumably running off to kill Doom anyway. Sonic isn’t even mad, he’s literally just like ‘lmfao nice’ and the Commander is there because…reasons?

I like how in half of the neutral endings, Shadow kills Eggman. No "I'll let you live this once" or throwing him to jail, just straight up murder. And in the first one he orders Omega to do the job

neutral dark has to be the funniest ending, mostly due to eggman’s lines.
