FUCK level scalling!!! Fuck it to death! Why is old man Mgee's cellar suddenly infested by 10 undead dragons?!? Wtf was he upto?!?

I agree with you on the fact that pure level scaling is trash. But I have to say that with none on a large scale game, there's chances you skip a whole area on your grind path, then later have to traverse it and realize the enemies are entirely useless. As a game dev and designer, it's a tough thing to avoid the pure scaling. If there is no scaling it's got to be super apparent where you can dominate and where you're just a little baby to the enemies, or people miss content. When players miss content the game's total worth goes down, this hurts devs and players. The compromise would be one way scaling. If enemies are too weak for you by a certain margin, after killed they are gone, and are replaced next time by things closer to your level, but never scale anything strong down so you still have to get up to their level to deal with them.

Blatant level scaling has always bothered me - I remember playing Oblivion for the first time and wondering where the fucking liches, land dreughs and clanfears were only to find out they appear when you reach a certain level and booting out lower level enemies out of the spawn list almost completely. Morrowind has a little bit of level scaling but it clearly shows in the construction set that certain regions and places are littered with high level daedra while other areas only spawn low level animals - it's a good balance (except for tombs when stronger undead only appear at high levels) but I always prefer it when each region has a recommended level whilst allowing the player to explore at their own risk.

Hell yes! Oblivion is also my first memory of this. The moment I realized what was going on with the game I rushed through the main story to get it done and quit. Gothic 2 had a consistent world. If you roam too far you get killed, your problem. The world felt much more alive. It exists without the player character. Also the gaming itself is better. You could kill the harder enemies but that requires actual tactics or skill with keyboard and mouse.

This, level scaling is a cancer that needs to die.

Mansur That's why I never played Skyrim and don't respect it. Because this is what the combat should've been like. I played Skyrim for like 30 minutes and pressed Uninstall. I'm all about gameplay and I despise busy work. Shadow warrior 2 was made for the gamers and not just the investors.

That's my problem with modern day gaming, so many frills and no focus on the reason why i game. I game for the "Gameplay". Gameplay, which for me consists of combat being 70% of importance within the whole. And unfortunately games like Skyrim always fail to make the grade. If I wanna role-play I'll just wait till my woman gets Home and BAM! She's tied up in the basement.

I'd rather have Chivalry melee combat in Skyrim.

Well to be honest, this game holds your hand just like the other games with the minimap and highlighting even the route you need to take. Doesn't make it a bad game.

Knife Guy Gamer just turn off the HUD, but you need a minimap in this game. That was a major complaint in the 1st game, because it had no "bread crumbs trail" or indication on where to go. If you turn that map or HUD off you will be lost as hell. What I did was I turned reticle off and playing on the highest difficulty, so I'm getting my shit pushed in at the moment:)

Dubious I just read some more Interviews with these guys and also had a look at the benchmarks and the ingame options... this game is polished as fuck and not the usual garbage port. They did an awesome job on this and show how it's supposed to be done. Then they only charge about half of what others want for their so called triple A games and last but not least, their stance on DRM... You simply gotta love these guys. I'll definitely throw my money at em.

I guess the only proper way for a developer to take anti piracy measures is to release a tweaked version of the game on torrent sites themselves that flaws a gameplay element. Like Rockstar did with GTA 4's drunk mode, the Batman game where his cape wouldn't unfold to fly or Mirrors edge where the character would suddenly start limping 2 meters before a big jump. It's a comedic way to take measures and doesn't affect the true customers. In fact, it makes pirates reveal themselves on their forums without them knowing it as they believe they are just encountering a random bug. Best one is Game Dev Tycoon, where your game company also gets plagued by pirates and goes bankrupt.
