They actually remade the whole game with an updated engine and gave it to previous owners. The new engine is a lot more responsive. The tag team juggling act can be pretty hectic, and it's not something I see being done elsewhere that I can remember.

Summary: It's a really strange game to play at first with the way combat is implemented in the game but after a while it all makes perfect sense, I really enjoyed using the different strategy's. And what I never mentioned is that there are multiple endings depending on your characters so plenty to replay value as there is no end game content as such. The entire main quest is about 20 hours but with all the side quests you are probably looking at 30 and as I mentioned you can play multiple endings with other characters. Mouse and keyboard was fine but it is better on a controller due to the analogue aiming, I found that hard on the keyboard. Some of the puzzles are a little clunky, especially the ball rolling but aside from one crash I never really found any bugs. So for me it's a deffo thumb up all the way.

The mechanics with both realms is very interesting, like the example you gave with zombies being resurrected and having to go into the spirit realm. It's good to hear they make use of that mechanic throughout the game, first thing I was worried about is that it was just a quick gimmick for that one part and they didn't capitalize on it

13 years ago Dungeon Siege II came out. Real time RPG. 4 characters on screen at any given time. Skills synergies. No load screen. Every NPC Voice acted. If graphic didnt go out of date so fast I'd still be playing that instead. @Mack have you played it? You should review it on how it stands compared to todays games like this one here.

This is actually a sequel to another Shadows game if you didn't know Mack that has the same mechanic of switching between realms. Shadows: Awakening and Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms. Might be worth mentioning?

Wow, the combat seems different, and different is good. We all know that. When you say this game is brutal, I hope you can dial it down a bit; sometimes if I have a hard day at work I just want to kill stuff and imagine my managers are the zombies (because let's face it, that's all managers do, moan and walk slow)... Anyway, I'll add this to my wishlist too and wait for the next massive GMG/steam sale. Thanks for review, helpful to know about the back tracking and enemies not respawning. There are some isometic rpgs that do that, which is very annoying. Especially when your inv fills up after 20 enemies, so you go all the way back to a merchant, sell and then find yourself killing the same enemies and you don't get anywhere. Only 15% off on GMG now :(. Edit: On a completely different subject. Anyone else find Steam really annoying when it keeps asking for your date of birth. Why can't I set my date of birth in my settings? I'm sure it asked my date of birth when I created my account 13+ years ago. It asks me to confirm my dob every time I view a "mature" game; if I am logged in on my account surely it should remember it and not ask me. I just give up now and scroll right to the top and select any year.

It's a good game, IMO. If you like Diablo-likes, which I very much do. Switching characters takes some getting used to, and this game has more Zelda-like puzzles in the dungeons than you ever see in Diablo-likes, so...Keep that in mind. If you hate dungeon puzzles, maybe stick to others like Grim Dawn, Titan Quest, Torchlight 2, and Path of Exile.

Just purchased the game. Played a few hours. Impressions are that it is a pretty standard DIablo clone with an interesting twist that helps keep it fresh (the parallel demon world). Overall I reckon it is a solid title and if you are a Diablo fan you'll probably like this but the game has already crashed on me more than once when loading a save point so waiting for a patch or two is probably be a wise move...

Finished first playthrough after 28 hours, have done every single available quest. I like this game a lot, imo it's better than diablo 3. Unlike many other hack and slay games you can replay it multiple times because there are so many mutually exclusive quests, decisions and characters.It's not as good as Titan Quest though.

Most all isometric RPGS are Real Time. I wish more were turn based but other than Divinity: Original Sin, I can't think of any unless you go way back to 1980s Ultima and SSI, or Sirtech style RPGS. JRPGS are mostly turn based but I'm speaking of PC RPG games.

"This game has really good combat" - well, compared to Diablo or Torchlight, the combat is just awfully sluggish and lacking flexibility. In those games, your active character did not have 3 or 4, but dozens of abilities at hand, making gameplay very versatile and the combat speed felt action-packed. In Shadows Awakening, movement and attack animations are reeaaaaaaaally slooooow. Of course you can compare this action rpg to a turn-based rpg and come to the conclusion that it's fast (compared to, you know, turn based games!) but that's just comparing apples with oranges.
