Very intentional and that’s where I question her motives. Like she was all smiles when the bride was taken aback. She doesn’t want to let her son go at all. You can hear her literally sigh when they broke the news of not getting married. Willing to bet she is the reason he’s not with his child’s mother. Yes they were flat they need vocal coaches to make it for real. If they go into HipHop or R&B. Troy’s mother was out of order because she wasn’t being his mother she was being a place holder for his woman. Idk what happened to his father but mom needs to do something to make her happy or date someone. I’m grateful that my husband’s mother isn’t like this. His mom has a different place in his heart boundaries needed to be set. Keep your loved ones out of your relationship especially your marriage. I been married with my husband for 4 years and I have gone to her for advice but we have boundaries which is healthy sometimes you gotta learn things with your partner on your own.

When she said he was gone for two weeks then came back to tell her he had full custody of his daugher and when she got mad that he told his mother he passed his police training and didn't tell her, and finally she said she wanted 5 children while trying to be a professional singer, I knew it was over. He needs a mother for his child, she fit the bill. Few will agree but him telling his mom and not her didn't concern me. He's not running to another woman, that's his mother. What he told his mother was a benefit to their relationship and his overall life, nothing to be mad about. He probally would have told her once it was all done as a surprise to her instead of stressing her out during the recruitment process. He just wanted to maintain his manhood and show himself a provider to her. A marriage lasting is 50/50. Good parents being there for you is 100/100. Hopefully he found a woman that doesn't get upset he confides in his mother when it's no harm to their relationship. A good fiance/wife learns from the mother, that way she can be there for him in a similar manner when the mother dies.

The mother is scared to let her son grow up. My friend and his mom is the same way. I call him a mom’s boy. l think the mom purposely spilled the beans about him becoming a cop in order to damage their relationship and hurt Shia. If she doesn’t learn how to backup during the engagement process, she never will. Saying “she’s not your wife yet” sounds crazy. This is a common theme in the black community due to fatherless homes, emotionally incestual relationships between mothers and their sons. Even the fact that Troy often times doesn’t tell Shia when he’s at his mom’s house, is a sign that he subconsciously treats his mom as the “other woman.” It’s weird and inappropriate. "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh". Genesis 2:24

Just know that this is not a "Black community"/fatherless home issue. That may be your personal experience, but it's definitely cross-cultural and sometimes so much worse in other cultures. TLC had a show about mama's boys and most of the participants were not Black and also had a father figure around growing up. It's a common mother/son dynamic and the reason why so many married people have mother in law problems.

Now don’t give me wrong, the woman in this episode does have some major issues. MAJOR. And they need to be addressed. But I think her issues are more about infantilizing her son that they are about some type emotional husbandless fatherless incestuous situation. I haven’t seen the show that you’re referring to, but overly involved mother-in-laws are a common theme across cultures. Italian moms, Mexican moms, Jewish moms who are hyper fixated on their sons are a stereotype that everybody thinks is is common and even sweet. Let a Black woman do the same thing and she becomes the cause of all the ills in the Black community. 🤦🏾‍♀️

They can’t sing. That mom has made her son as a husband and he can’t even tell his mom to back off without blaming his fiancé. And they are so unrealistic about life and responsibility. Sad case.
