I grew up in the Inland Pacific Northwest... I got acquainted with a few of the tribes of Eastern Washington, North Idaho, Northwestern Montana, like The Spokane, Nez Perce, Cheyenne. I also ran into a few Crow Tribal members in my High school years. I could not speak their language or hear very well what they spoke, on the basis I am very hard of hearing. But their sign language got me curious. I tried a few conversations in ASL, but most of the people in these conversations smiled... and wrote out what they signed. I had a great time in comparing Native sign language with ASL...

yes, our signing works across most tribes despite being from differing language families

So awesome!!! I’m from Minnesota (and not native) I went to my first Powwow that weekend. Had to decide between Shakopee or Mil Lacs, and ended up going to Mil Lacs. It was such an incredible experience, I hope to go to many more next year. Maybe I’ll run into you at one😊

Awesome! Shakopee is definitely one to check out!

Have you ever been to Oklahoma powwows? Lol I used to see them more when I was younger but yeah some fights happen at pws😂
@carysteele612 жыл бұрын
If a fight broke out at a 49 my friends would tell me to get in the car and keep the doors locked until the fighting was over. LOL

I'ma men's traditional and grass dancer. I'm curious? How come you only go to contest and not traditional pow wows?? I was at mill lacs Minnesota pow wow when Shakopee was going on. I watch your blogs and travels,safe journey to your travels.

Oklahoma doesn’t really have “traditional powwows”. In the fall/winter there are gourd dances or benefit dances that don’t have contests. I grew up attending those dances but I also like to compete and watch others compete/dance.

@@RavenMorgan oh wow too bad Oklahoma doesn't have traditional pow wows. I'm creole, cherokee, navajo. Wanted to go to Cherokee days cuz my great grandma and grandpa were from telequa,ok. I don't do contest cuz I've seen too much racism and biased n many esp n wisconsin where I live. I'm from Houston Texas originally and many time cuz my regalia,skin tone are different and not of these tribes, I've seen lot go on and don't get me wrong I won a men's traditional once but the audience voted and that was fair however I've seen too much and I dance to tell my creole stories,for my dad who passed n my hands 11yrs ago and for relatives I've lost and for the elders and children. I get lots of kindness from the people and my main focus is God the creator who blessed me to dance again after three years of not being able to walk,I have knee braces and disabilities n my hip,feet but I'm a trained athletic man,I work out and dance very hard telling my stories and my other tribes dances and I drum/sing,pro musician. To dance is a gift from God my savior, it's a blessing. May God bless you raven n ur contest,u look amazing n ur women's traditional,ur good,I don't know how u move so graceful like that. Nice to watch. I sure can't move graceful like that,I'm 6'5"too built!!!😂 I'm glad to see u doing ur thing and I enjoy you vlogs and will support you always and pray God continues to use u to bring joy to others n Jesus name. Sincerely, travoi redhawk
