I would absolutely choose B. Suffer from some bad smells on ocassion, and have an obstructed view on one side of my house, for the trade off of becoming very well off without having to work. Personally, I would still work, and invest the extra income. Then in 10 to 15 years, I'd sell the property and move to Palm Beach. What people like Leslie Stahl have zero connection with, is that outside of her gated community, most people suffer bad smells and obstructed views anyway.

With anything there are some inherent risks. With proper regulation and ethical supervision fracking and drilling can be no more dangerous to a community that building a large gas station or an oil refinery (probably much safer than an oil refinery). What has happened to these people as a result of fracking incidents is awful and is a perfect example of under regulation, however the benefits outweigh the costs tremendously when proper regulations and level-headed judgement are implemented in how these things are carried out.

Chesapeake has delayed or refused to complete other purchases in that region as well, the lawsuit states. “Chesapeake has convinced numerous leasehold owners in Michigan to sell leases to Chesapeake instead of other prospective purchasers, and then manufactured alleged title defects or other alleged justification not to close the agreements after discovering negative information concerning the zones within the Collingwood range,” according to the lawsuit.

I think shale gas is a GOOD solution for the ever increasing energy demand. It is in comparison with oil and coal environmental friendly as its emission of greenhouse gasses per unit of energy is less. Moreover it contributes to increased employment, which I think is quite important . Let me know your opinion about shale gas!

I understand your point of view, but just think about the fact that it costs a lot of energy to build a windmill. I think this is not possible without conventional energy sources like gas and oil. I am sure that there are plastic elements in windmills and in solar panels, and plastic is made from oil. What do you think about that?

What do YOU think? I think it's great technology but at what cost? If people get sick from it, is it worth the risk? I feel there should be a responsibility and safety standard that's universal and holds accountable the inevitable "bad actors" who don't tow the line

@Marthaz89 There are only cons here because they don't mention that Shale Oil Development is a net energy negative just like Ethanol is. THat means that more energy goes into extraction and refinement than what you get from the refined shale oil fuel itself.

So, my takeaway is that one guy says he can live without natural gas in an extremely impoverished community and a environmental advocate agrees that shale gas is the future and that we just need to regulate it. Shale gas is cleaner than a lot of things and one thing I bet you didn't know is that those wind turbines are actually fueled by fossil fuels as well!

The husband and wife in this video who are complaining about the drilling should put more consideration into their trade-offs. A. Be poor, and struggle to feed our daughter, but have clean, open land in all directions. B. Be rich, without even working, send our daughter to college without loans, and never have to worry about money again, simply for giving up the open land view on one side of our house, and occasionally suffering some bad smells and smoke.

Totally agree that Natural gas is definitely not a good substitute of coal.

@Costerguy1234556 Actually the batteries in the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt and Ford Focus Electric are good for 100K miles. That's not bad and the technology will improve fast. We gave $39 Billion in oil subsitys during a time of record profits. That much money is enough to build 46 thousand megawatts of wind energy.

@THEBIUEMUPPET Yes shale gas is easy to do but it has a low net energy gain that is the big con of shale gas. Shale Oil has about no net energy gain at all.

Some locals said that probably some shale gas company will start working close to my house. I read your comments and some of them are very strong arguments, pros and cons, but can somebody really show me with good arguments whether I should be frightened or not. I don’t want to get ill from living close to fracking, but on the other hand I would like to earn some money if I can sell my property. I am very interested in your advice. Thanks in advance!

@mexicansnowglobe It's not the same as conventional oil. If there is 10 billion barrles of this stuff and it takes almost 10 billion barrles of energy to extract and refine then it is almost worthless as an energy source.

Shale gas relatively easy to retrieve but is held back by misconceptions the fact that it takes time to drill and an army of green idealist. I see a future where solar power is the dominant source of energy. However that time is here yet and nor the technology and Shale gas is the perfect stepping stone for the 20 years.

In the context of my comment, "clean" refers to land unobstructed by a massive natural gas drilling site. (fyi, your second sentence isn't even in proper english).
