Shamama is 80 years old. She learned how to knit from her mother. She says they knit with 3 colors. We used to give these to our daughters in their dowry. It is possible to knit one of these in one week. These long slipper socks are knit with 5 needles in carpet patterns.

In September, 2021, Teresa Hamilin, founder of Azerbaijani Socks walked through the mountainous regions of Azerbaijan with the purpose of researching the history, traditions and designs of knitted socks. These videos were produced with the hope of preserving this valuable craft, to celebrate the talented women of Azerbaijan, and to encourage them to pass this tradition to the next generation.
