So, it has a different meaning and not one that is being stated in the incorrect translation. Just like, for example, the word "mean" has multiple meanings in English just like the word, "interest", "date", "leave", etc. In Verse 4:19, ALLAH says in the Quran, "O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion. And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them unless they commit a clear immorality [i.e., adultery]. And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and ALLAH makes therein much good." - Translation by Saheeh International Quran is not allowing compulsion, then how it could allow beating a wife? Also, don't read things out of context. Read the whole Surah instead of just one verse as all verses in a Surah are related. Kindly read the life of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. He never hit any of His Wives. Don't misinterprete. Respect all religions. May peace be upon all the Prophets. May peace be upon Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses, Prophet Jesus, and Prophet Muhammad.
