As someone who has done horseback riding both for leisure and competitive sport it really pisses me off when someone says they want to get a horse just because... I know there’s a lot of perceptions about horse people and “horse girls” but it has to be said that these animals can be beyond dangerous if you do not know what you’re doing. And a few lessons within the span of under a year is not going to show you that, especially if you’re a beginner. It takes years to learn how to read them and even then after riding for years you can still get seriously hurt. They are extremely high maintenance animals and if you don’t take care of them properly they can get seriously hurt or sick. Owning a horse shouldn’t be a hobby that you randomly decide to pick up to do for just a couple of months it’s a commitment you need to make for years on end. Not to mention the fact they live in California. The heat plays a huge factor in psychically being able to ride as it can make you and the horse extremely sick. And maybe it’s just my personal opinion but Ryland seems like the kind of person to ride for 20 minutes one day in the summer, realize it’s too hot and that horseback riding is a lot more than just sitting on a horse and quit.
