To be fair - and I hate to do it when it comes to Shane - at least in the way the video is edited he seems to be talking specifically about the animal crackers that are literally using the same shapes as the original brand. Usually generics won't go that far and I wouldn't be surprise if Trader Joe's got in trouble for it.

Seeing how surprised Shane is by store brands, everyone's like "oh that proves he's been cosplaying as a poor person this whole time" but it's deeper than that. Him being so shocked makes it seem like he's literally never been in a grocery store.

@@poopoopeepee318 the fact that he got the animal crackers on Amazon really says it all. He was already going to go to all these grocery stores for the video, but it's just easier and more convenient to have the carbon footprint of yet another single item being (probably next-day) delivered. I also can be part of this problem, and I'm trying to make sure I am at least somewhat sustainable, but this is just absurd.

So actually I used to watch Shane as a pure innocent child not understanding things years ago and I was also a bit of an animal nerd So one time Shane was reviewing a video that “proved we lived in a simulation” in a conspiracy video. This was also the last Shane Dawson video I ever watched cuz it annoyed me that much. It was a video of someone on a train filming a bird that was stationary in the air. That apparently proved everything as it was “the earth glitching”. I’m a paranoid person at the best of times. But oh my god that is just proof of a lack of understanding. I tried to talk to my friends about it and THEY ALL BELIEVED IT TOO. Lost my mind trying to explain it was just a kestrel which are famous for their ability to fly into the wind to stay still to hunt for prey. Got no where so I’m commenting this here for the hopes someone hears me cuz omg I am still loosing my mind over it to this day.

I’d like to add on that at first glance, that theory is very slightly believable. But if you think about it for like,, 3 seconds it’s not hard to realize that the pizza is just cut by a teenager and/or someone who just doesn’t care or wasn’t trained properly, so of course it’s not gonna look right. Adding on that everything is done by hand. The pizzas are NEVER a perfect circle. Sometimes that’s just the shape of the screen we stretch the dough on.

@@lexinicole4317 but it's also making people spend more because they think they're getting higher quality products. it's dishonest and a trick. You could look at it from both sides I suppose. At one point though those companies noticed that people might not have been buying their products because of the price, so instead of lowering them as a whole they created a new brand that was cheaper as a ploy to not only get lower income people to buy their product but also raise the worth of their name brand products, which are the same as the generic brand. They're making extra money off tricking people. Even if they were forced into this position it still says a lot about the priorities of the food industry in the US.

@@gilbert4394 But that doesn't make any sense either. Food scarcity, cost of transport, area cost of living, etc. can make the same product vary wildly in price depending on where you buy it. Even if we're talking generic vs. name brand, the same product isn't necessarily the same product. Aldi's might have different quality control requirements than Kellogg's. You get the guarantee that what you're buying will taste how you expect it to. Dr. Thunder is not going to taste like Dr. Pepper. Most generic diet root beers have an extra herbal taste that A&W doesn't have. @@Edelarabecause it doesn't really matter. The way they get you to buy the brand name is by giving it value (marketing), and that's expensive. Part of the reason the product is more expensive is because of the value that the brand has... And also there are strategies, cheaper less known brands pretend to sell more and make less per unit sold, while others might want to sell less but having a higher profit per unit. How do they do this? Marketing. Substitute products, complementary products, customer loyalty, trust in the brand, experience with said brands... There's a lot studied on this. It's not new, but maybe if people knew more they could be more responsible consumers
