"I know his little moves...a lot of guys aren't crafty enough to understand the movement that he's doing...he fights like from a different era...he's slipping and ducking and giving you different angles," stated former world champion Shane Mosley, who explained why he doesn't think fighter's today are crafty enough to deal with Floyd Mayweather's style. Check it out!

I have never seen a fighter that makes to opponents to punch air than Floyd. Even standing in the pocket, he can't still be hit. You can only hit him at places that don't score points and this is what naive boxing fans don't know. I am sometimes overwhelmed by the ignorance of some fans. They don't know scoring vs non-scoring punch, effective vs ineffective punch and what ring generalship is.

Exactly; I think for those of us who understand the science and art of boxing and what floyd is actually doing in there, it is so overwhelmingly frustrating to hear the ignorance spewing out of the mouths and keyboards of so many "boxing fans". Becoming an amateur over the last year has only given me more appreciation and complete amazement at how floyd is able to move and think in the ring the way he does.

Mosley is right about Mayweather fighting like fighters from different era. New fans >probably< associate the 'old school boxing' with fighters throwing whatever they have with a lot of brawl and blood, but if you watch closely fights from 40's and 50's, from offensive fighters like Joe Louis, Marciano and Sugar Ray Robinson to defensive wizards like Willie Pep and Bernard Lewis, you can see them fighting with this side on stance you see from fighters like Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins. And the implications are much more than just the stance, they can easily move their heads out of the center line, they provide much less target, the shoulders and the arms are the first line of defense (all of this sounds familiar, eh?), the rotation of the hips provide much more power in their 'power' hands (just think of Wladimir Klitschko's righ hands), etc... In a sense, the modern style you see from today fighters (GGG, Canelo, Lucas Matthysse, ..) are much more offensive than the 'classical' boxing style. I remember a coach saying modern fighters' defense aren't good because they do sparring with headgears (= less care about gettin' hit). It may not seem like a big deal but compare to past fighters (50's) who didn't used it and had to fight couple times per month, getting hit sometimes would mean not fighting (not getting their payday). So yes, Mayweather's style is really old school if you stop to think about it and.. still works.

Fighting = exchanging blows to win a match by points or KO Mayweather is absolutely a fighter. You're mistaking brawling for fighting. Mayweather is not a brawler. He's absolutely a fighter. A complete fighter with skills so honed that he can stand tow to toe with the lineal world champion in the 5th division he's competed in. Pacquiao couldn't stand toe to toe with super lightweights without being knocked on his ass. And every man that Pacquiao beat above 140lbs was coming off a huge loss and most of them were bound by weight manipulation clauses that slowed them down and weakened them. Manny's success above 140 is not the product of "fighting" as you see it. Its the product of carefully stipulated conditions and manipulations that stacked the deck in Pacquiao's favor. You write "fighting" like its a good thing. Exciting? Yes! High skilled? No. Pacquiao fights the way that he does because HE HAS NO OTHER CHOICE. He's a limited fighter that HAS TO fight the way that he does. I think that Pacquiao has taken a lot of chances in his career .. and below 140lbs Pacquiao's career is better than most. Its just that when Pacquiao became the backed pony of HBO, they ruined his legacy with a lot of exaggeration and untruths. Pacquiao is a 4 division champion, not an 8 division champion. Pacquiao won vacant titles and minor regional belts in the other 4 divisions. He was not world champion in those other 4. I understand that HBO and Top Rank wanted to make the most money that they could off of Pacquiao's name .. and in order to do that they had to brand build .. but there's a difference between brand building and flat out LYING. If you'd like to go further into it, we can, but most people don't realize that they don't until the facts actually come out.

What makes Floyd so good is his wide skill set. To make a football analogy. Some QBs have cannons for arms, others can read any defensive scheme and pick it apart, some are great at creating time by scrambling, some are very hard to tackle b/c of their size, speed, and athletism, others have outstanding accuracy. Tom Brady may have several of these attributes but not all of them and he's the best QB ever. Floyd has nearly every attribute. As he learns his opponent, he adjusts his gameplan. He has the punching power to make opponents respect him, the defense to elude fast boxers, the timing to catch smart opponents, the endurance to go into deep rounds without losing a step, the composure to get into weary opponent's heads, the eyes to catch crucial (and subtle) details, counter punching that makes hitting him perplexingly difficult, a great chin, the best feet in the business, the list really does goes on. Something few boxers can replicate b/c they lack this broad a skill set. He's simply going into early rounds to determine which approaches his opponents cannot counter and exploiting this knowledge in later rounds.

The only weakness I ever saw or heard of in Mayweather's boxing package was his brittle hands. I think it was the Cotto fight (not sure at all if it was Cotto) but he apparently injured them and he clearly lost that fight IMO. Heard he had problems w them his entire later career, and this was one reason he never let them fly at the end. If true, he was even more disciplined and tougher than we know.

If Floyd didn't have a chin, he would have knocked Floyd out when they fought. He caught Floyd with the hardest Punch I've ever seen Floyd took. Floyd did buckle, but he has a hell of a chin. That's when I first realized no one would ever knock out Floyd.

My first impression is that he's been hitting the sauce. Lol. Mosley was a bad mf in the ring. He had one of the most vicious body shots out there. After losing to Vernon Forest he was never the same. Sometimes its better not to face your past demons, but to keep moving past them instead

Shane caught Floyd a couple of times, still couldn't put enough good shots together to score a ko or anything. Mostly the shots Floyd gets hit with are not power shots, even though the opponent's shots may graze Floyd or even hit him with glancing blows, because of his movement he is able to elude damage. All the while any fighter in front of Floyd is going to be getting pot shotted with pinpoint shots with leverage that knock the total gank out of a dude (LOL). If you are dealing some damage to Floyd he is dealing a whole lot of dmg to you (ehhe).

Heavy hands also comes from the size of the fist in relation to the size of the man. A guy with a thinner bone structure but big hands will land harder than a guy with think wrists and average size hands. The weight is at the end of the crack

Only train lightweight high reps or you will get muscle bound and lose power. This is true though Floyd's style is that of a crouching counter puncher. The art of the crouch is lost on today's fighters. Toney used it the same way.

This is exactly what the fuck Floyd was talking about. Taking unnecessary damage in the ring is not cool. You dont play boxing it can and will fuck you up down the road in your later years. Shane is punch drunk. It's not horrible but its definitely noticable and can only get worse time will tell. This is why Floyd fought the way he did. The fuck are the fans going to do when it's all said and done? All their cheers going to take care of you? Floyd robbed boxing said fuck the promoters became his own boss and left not only the richest in the sport but undefeated with minimal damage.

Shane you should have demanded a rematch to that first fight .That was your rival for 3fights and you all blew it .Money don't have any 3 fight wars in his career record ,3 fights with Judah would have been classics or 3 with Pac Man or any of his opponents when any time he won close,no rematch. The greats didn't decide their greatness from 1 time against an opponent they rumbled more than once sometimes 5 times, now that's the greatness fans don't get to see today in boxing ,Ali was the last fighter to do it against an Olympic Gold medal winner Leon Slinks .The two of them fought a beautiful boxing match Spinks threw some good punches but his size wasn't big enough to really hurt Ali .
