I bowled leggies to Nasser and Atherton in the nets while they were playing a touring match against South Australia. Nasser and I played a match finish, setting fields etc. I beat him and invited me back to bowl to England to warm them up before the Test. I bowled to all the English sides for four Ashes series, and actually bowled to all touring sides because they needed to face leggies. Also bowled to Australia each year. That's all thanks to Warne's dominance in the game. Bowled to my heros. Bowled in the same net with Warne, Magill, Tendulkar, Kumble, Panesar... everyone. Bowled against all my heroes. I'll never forget. Thank you, cricket.

Wow that sounds amazing. You must have been a good standard yourself. Did you play for a state in aus? How did you get invited in the first place? How old were you when you started? I always dreamt of bowling to the pros as a kid. I too was a leg spinner so the novelty of bowling to older groups was always there. The adrenaline bowling a ripper to those guys must habe felt class
@beardog6569

@@raven12387 thanks man. I played first grade, but never for the State. I started playing cricket in the first year of high school. I was rubbish. My friend was a legspinner in the youth state squad. My other friend ended up playing Test cricket. We used to get up early and train at Adelaide Oval before school. After school we'd train for school and also district. By the time I was 20 I was decent. The first time l bowled to England was because my friend asked if we could (l thought it was crazy). After that, I'd got asked by England and it became regular. That's as close as l ever got to Test cricket. I don't know if l could have been good enough. I took off several years for studies. It was a mistake. Two lessons from a guy older than you who didn't make it: 1. Never give up 2. Don't let being shy get in your way. It was intimidating to start. It was like "I'm not good enough to bowl to Steve Waugh. I don't want to waste his preparation time." And then, you snick him up and try to hide your smile from the man you would want to bat to save your life. You see the possibilities. Don't waste them. Grab them and do your best.

Totally agree Nass should be in that combined England XI. I was watching the most cricket in the 90's, and Australia had the wool over England then; but Nass was a fighter. He gave as good as he got; he kept England in many games during that era... Underrated as a captain IMO.

It's been days now, but it still hasn't sunk in. No sportsman's death has ever affected me like Shane's. I'm still in shock. The man was a phenomenen. Despite being England's nemesis for so long, as a cricket lover you could not help to admire his skill and the wonder balls that he bowled. I feel like I've been robbed, robbed of someone who's passion for the sport took him way beyond his playing days to help so many others in the game, robbed of his commentary, analysis and Wit. If ever I was going to shed a tear over a sportsman's death, then this is the moment. Thank you Shane for giving us so much joy. RIP Shane, the whole world will miss you !

Honestly it’s a relationship I love. I loved watching Warnie and Mac-daddy making nas and co look like dribblers. Then being able to talk and have a laugh, that’s a sign of mutual respect and men being absolutely comfortable with who they are, and as an Australian I absolutely adore the 05 ashes. That was a world champion side being brought back to earth by an unproven young team that absolutely refused to lose. It doesn’t get better than that.

@@troystaunton254 There will never EVER be another series like 2005. As a big Pommie cricket fan it absolutely defined that whole year. Two high quality sides (one all time great the other very very good which could have been great over time it Jones had managed to stay fit and with the addition of a world class spinner). Going toe to toe giving it absolutely everything. England’s mentality was an absolute revelation. Made me so proud.

I learned more about spin bowling from watching Warne in a 15 minute lunchtime slot during a test match in the mid 1990s than from all the coaching I had at private schools from 1963 to 1973 followed by club cricket and training till early 1980s. Shame I'd stopped playing by then except for nets at local clubs when son began playing. From that single film, I could spin sharp both ways, control line and length, drift, and pace. Felt like I had mind control of the ball. If I'd seen that video 20 years earlier, I'd have played at far level than Saturday 2s in Kent League second 11 teams.

It still hasn't sunk in for me here in London that Warnie is gone. Ah, it hurts like hell. I've been alive now for 3.5 decades and haven't seen such mourning for any player in the UK press, let alone an Aussi. He truly was bigger than life and we are mourning over this loss as if we lost one of our own. It's so hard to process the emotions of losing someone with the Aura of Warnie, someone who felt invincible and yet so humane when you talk to him. I hope you're having one hell of a party mate wherever you are. You'll be sorely missed not just in Australia but here in the UK, India, West Indies and South Africa as well. Hell, even my American friends heard about you through your exploits in Golf and were shocked. The only silver lining though is that you lived life on your terms and even though it was much too short, you did more in one lifetime than what anyone would do in 10. Everyone dies one day..but not everyone lives. You lived life, king size! Rest in peace, king! Gone too soon...💔💔💔💔💔

Love the way they joke around each other , here in India , people would go crazy , if someone jokes about former player . Even if it's a teammate. People need to lighten up here .

Absolutely love Shane Warne , alongside Sachin Tendulkar, the two greatest cricketers of modern times , devastating to hear of his death at such an early age

Rest In Peace Shane Warne. Taken way too soon. A colorful character and a genuine match-winner.

I wasn't following cricket as closely during lockdown. In fact it was the lockdown tests that got me back into watching test cricket. My point is this is the first time I've seen this and it makes me so sad that he's no longer with us, but Shane Warne is so hilariously funny. He's amazing this is just a chilled podcast but all his anecdotes are absolute rippers. I could happily just listen to him for hours. Sadly we now have to make do with the stories we already have.
