I got one when I just got started with photography and wanted to experiment with macro photography. It's great value for money and I had a lot of fun with it. I ended up giving it to a friend when I got more into portrait and street photography. Excellent review as always :)

Thank you for stopping by and watching! It is a very nifty lil' lens, I had very low expectations and thought diffraction would be a bigger issue. I think I will be lending to a few friends to try out just because of how fun it is. Thanks again, hope you have a great day :)

I bought the Raynox DCR-250 and a 58 mm - 43 mm filter step-down adapter for my Tamron F004, 90 mm F/2.8 1:1 Macro. I thought this would be a good starting point, but I was wrong. I was able to achieve a magnification of plus 27% and of course sent everything back. The manufacturer speaks of plus 8 diopters, whatever he means by that. One thing I would like to try is a set of JJC AF macro extension rings set 12 mm 20 mm 36 mm for the Tamron Macro 1:1 on my Nikon D850. The manufacturers of such aids always assume 50 mm lenses without macro function.

It’s. worth noting that extension tubes have a bigger impact on magnification for wider focal lengths, while the Raynox has a bigger impact for telephoto focal lengths. Over at the Extreme Macro website, there is a magnification calculator for the Raynox

Nice review like you I'll be using it with both the 55mm f1.8 and the 90mm f2.8. It was on the strength of your review that I put my order in for the Raynox. Ive done a fair bit of studio Marco but my aim is to be using outdoors so a whole new workflow to learn.

Great video, i love the calm presentation. Have you tried stacking two raynox DCR-250s? I have one dcr 250 which I paired with sigma 105 macro on a sony a7rv to give a 2.68:1 ratio. Produces heavy vignette in FF mode, but can be cut out in post. And vignette goes away in crop sensor mode. I do want the option for a bit more magnification and thinking about getting a second DCR-250. Another option is the MSN-202, but I feel I may struggle with that much magnification and possible vignette on a full frame sensor

One thing about how far you can focus with it. Hint : Its in the name . 250 mm is the maximum distance you can focus with it. BTW Very nice review. I have had mine for many years.. its so convenient to have it always with me.

Excuse me, btw will raynox be helpful if the lense is telephoto zoom tamron 18-300mm for sony apsc? the magnification ratio of the lense is 1:2 in 18mm and 1:4 in 300mm. I hope i can increase the magnification ratio at least 1:1 with raynox so I can do deeper macro.
@heartflame503
@heartflame503 2 жыл бұрын
@@smileofdean Raynox is basically a magnifying glass. So It will magnify the image , both the good bits as well as the bad bits. So the result depends a lot on the quality of your lens. For example I have a nikkor 18-300 and a nikkor 70-200 f4. yes I can use it on both , however the results from the 70-200 f4 is far superior. For your tamron 18-300 It should work fine at 300mm but I think its not as sharp at that focal length .. you may get better results at 250mm or less.. Good luck ! note that at very high magnifications image quality is not always related to the lens quality but technique and skill of the photographer.

Thanks for the video! I was wondering if there would be vignetting when used with the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG DN Macro Art lens.(filter size 62mm). :-)

I got this thing back in 2016 or so when I was first getting into photography and I started with a little point and shoot rx100v. I wanted to do macro and found this thing along with a magnetic mount for that camera. Then as I upgraded my kit this thing went into a camera bag in a closet for the next 5 years. I will say, I’ve had the spring loaded mount break on me three times and had to get a replacement. The plastic one tabs like to snap off. Also I’m suspicious of the ‘glass’ element as just from sitting in a bag for 5 years the thing acquired a lot of small scratches. Also some weird separation at the edge where the element meets the plastic. I also noticed this with other reviewers. Have you noticed any of the same issues? I haven’t done a lot of testing yet as I only just remembered where I had put it all those years ago. Im wondering what kind of image degradation, if any, it adds to an image. I also can’t get a reliable answer on the exact magnification I’m getting on a 105mm 1:1 macro lens with this attached.

Has anyone experienced it pulling off the front of their camera lens? I have a cannon Sx70 and the first time I connected it , it pulled the inner ring off my lens. It clipped back in, but I am a little worried now...

I would have emphasized a little more that you seem to be reviewing this product from the perspective of a full-frame owner. I don't own any lens that this won't fit on with my apsc system, and vignetting is either non existent or very minimal
@ShaneBethlehem
@ShaneBethlehem Жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, you are totally correct! I did test it on my a6600 at the time but I used my full frame lenses mainly, so the idea of smaller lenses being more prevalent for the smaller sensor was not top of mind for me then. Others have mentioned great success with even kit lenses for apsc systems. So yeah I am def biased here towards full frame, my apologies 😅

I'm considering getting this lens for my Leica D Lux 7 which has pretty impressive macro performance to start with as well as a 43mm thread on the front of the lens so no need for any adapter. Have you any experience with this setup?

Unfortunately it depends on the lens you are using and how the raynox is mounted, so I can't give an accurate number. I'd be happy to make a spreadsheet with how they operate on the lenses I own if there is enought interest

When you get very close it's extremely shallow, proportional to what you would expect. However a good amount of the samples in this video where with the Raynox on the 90 and I did not use additional lighting or stabilization and got by with f11-f18 quite well

Weird decision not to show what photo is from a true macro lens, what is from Raynox and which of the lenses was it used with. Makes no sense and actually doesn't give me a visual presentation if the lens is worth getting or not.

It would be doable, but it just depends on your workflow. If you like using a macro lens for portraits it may be worthwhile to go that route but this with a 50mm would be a functional setup
