Hi Kaja, so good to see you back in Shanghai again! China changes, and Shanghai changes even faster. I was there in 2011 for an internship, and in 2016, and in 2018. Somehow it is so hard to keep up with this city. This is difficult, but for me also the reason i loved it in the first place. I will be back, just as you are back, and will be back and back and back... Shanghai is allways Calling!

If you don’t like change, that is US. Even McDonald pretty much look same 40 years ago in the US. You also don’t see as many bloggers talking to themselves in the US. Besides it is dangerous in the US, you may get robbed. I think they made it easier to set up QR payment for foreigners nowadays.
@TAL142

@@huping7706 It depends on your definition of innovation. US only would spend money on researches they can make huge profit. I would dare to say they don't contribute to the betterment of the world except if you consider selling wars and weapons. If they can sell you old stuffs for the same profit, why waste money in improving. US don't even have motion sensor faucet in most places until the Covid19. And they still don't in many places nowadays. Concept or idea can start anywhere but it is meaningless until that became a product. You can invent carriage but that doesn't mean you get credit for EV. You can be the one discovered electricity but that doesn't mean you invent LED light. You can invent the LED light but if you never made a product people would buy. And the person who commercialize it will get all the credit. Just ask Bill Gate and Xerox. They are famous for their "invention" they took from IBM. I was just talking about impact to consumers but that is not all. China leads in 37 of 44 technologies tracked in a year-long project by thinktank the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. The fields include electric batteries, hypersonics and advanced radio-frequency communications such as 5G and 6G. The report, published on Thursday, said the US was the leader in just the remaining seven technologies such as vaccines, quantum computing and space launch systems. I live in the US and went to school in the US. Most of my classmates in engineering and science are foreigners or first general immigrants. May be there are some really smart people in the US but that is also true all over the world. With current US foreign policies, these foreign talents that US relied on will decline. Will the US educated kids replace them? I doubt it. I just don't see US educated kids are competitive enough in science and engineering. The smarter kids rather become politicians, lawyers and doctors than into researches.

I've lived in the US for most of my life & I've never been robbed directly, but they will break into your car if they see something they want depending on the car & neighborhood. I've never had anything stolen from my suitcase when I fly but when I go to other countries (Brazil, Argentina) things go missing, also the men directly assaulted me many times (India) and robbed (India & the Netherlands). I feel much safer in the US. I have to sleep with my bags next to me in Europe & India whereas in the US you can leave your bags anywhere on the train or luggage compartment & no one will steal it from you. There's gun violence which is the #1 problem they have to fix in the US, otherwise, when traveling, I feel the safest here because I know i won't be robbed & assaulted. Just don't go to the wrong neighborhood (like anywhere in the world) & you'll be fine!
@TAL142
@TAL142 Жыл бұрын
@@Lotusheart19 I have never been robbed either. But my house has been broken into. And I live in a decent neighborhood in the US. One of my friend was at BART station parking lot. Some guy just punched him and then took his wallet. But then comparing to developing countries and the US. Is this the level US became? I suggest you search this "Nordstrom to close both Downtown San Francisco stores" This is how tough to do business in the US because of brazen crimes. US is not as bad as Mexico but then you are pretty safe in Mexico if you stay inside certain resort.

Kaja, China is not the only place changing. The world and the way we handle money is changing. Noone wants credit cards because it is debt used to purchase. You need to create new experiences. If the train was there before and it is now...its the same. Your Accommodations were Perfect so no problem there. Also, When we live in the moment our memories are being recorded and it is truly about your viewpoint in that moment. Now, you look at life differently but something always remain the same. Being a first timer with other first timers to experience something is the best feeling ever, however, it is no longer your first time and you are a seasoned individual now. The new toys always the best and are quickly are put in front of the old ones. Shanghai is your old toy but does it have to be nostalgic? Maybe meet a first time and show them around. Maybe play in shanghai a bit differently this time. The world still more recently just came out of a vicious lockdown as well. Life right now is semi-safeish but the people of all countries went through family losses as well. Also tourism and judgement were affected by this covid thing. Just enjoy being alive and make the trip the best you can. -Enjoy and stay blessed.

I think everywhere has changed after the pandemic. For me, America hasn't been the same since the pandemic. When I say America hasn't been the same, I mean the people. I can just feel it in the air, it's my intuition kicking in. The reason why Shanghai isn't the same as you remembered it, I think it's because lots of expats left during covid and Shanghai has become less international. It's going to take awhile before more foreigners come back to the city.

it's just a feeling, a malaise. If you were in China during the lockdowns, it was absolutely insufferable and senseless. There is still fallout from that, and then it's like returning to an abuser who pretends it did no harm. Also going back somewhere doesn't have the same feeling as the first time, kinda of a "been there done that, what am I doing here" feeling.

Shanghai used to be a really tolerant and diverse city, but the three-year covid blockade, especially in the first half of last year, Shanghai was closed for three months, it was a devastating blow, I am not only referring to the economic impact , but more to the psychological blow, the blow to confidence, because people suddenly found their lives are not controlled, in front of the unsupervised right, any good things are So many people choose to leave Shanghai, Shanghai is not the Shanghai that it once was, China is not the China that it once was, everything has changed, so sad😢

Hello! Beautiful and intelligent Miss Kaja! In fact, life is a journey. We grow up under the care of our parents, then we have childhood classmates to play and learn together with. Then, with the company of our teachers, we establish our own cognitive system of the world. After that, we try to independently explore a different world from what our parents know. We read and learn, think deeply, chat with friends about common topics, and enjoy music we like … Different time and space, different social groups, different beliefs and values, different attitudes towards life and ways of dealing with things. All these are different scenery on the journey of life. These different experiences bring either the joy of success or the frustration of failure, making the meaning of life more profound. However, what is most unforgettable is the love of parents, the warmth of family, and the care of friends. Times are changing and China is changing too. I hope you can feel the warmth of home in China. Have a pleasant journey!

@@KajaKubicka That "change" is that good or bad for the people(including you) in Shanghai? What do you think? Old Greek ole old man said "Know thyself". What does Ecclesiastes say about time? There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot..... It's time to _e_ _u_!

I'm afraid the young people lived in China even have not seen credit card. I have some credit cards, but I haven't use them in a real shop for more than then years. No body use them anymore. They have outdated.

Visa and mastercard isn't can't be used in china. It's just china became rather carefull use american finance channel. Like visa and mastercard. Because america attitude againts china not friendly for last couple year. That why they rather use own credit card. NYC is not changed. I lived there 30 years ago. I visited same place recently, even the trash cans are the same as 30 years ago. lol
