Let's Go Girls.... Shania Twain joins Jamie on Great Company to share her wisdom and optimism, always finding the silver lining in life.
Overcoming grief, illness, heartbreak, sexism, losing her voice, Shania Twain is a cultural icon whose resilience is truly astonishing. Selling over 100 million albums worldwide, her story is one of fearlessness and strength.
Growing up in a home marked by domestic violence, she reached a pivotal moment at her lowest point; choosing to never feel so miserable again, she convinced her mother to leave her father [18:45]. From there she eventually went on to becoming an international superstar, but not without much grief and hardship, losing both her parents in a car crash [36:02], she also opens up about learning to let go and forgive [32:52].
This episode reveals the human side of the pop star we know as Shania. And, of course, we couldn't let her leave without finding out - what DOES impress her?
00:00: Intro

18:47: Convincing my mum to leave domestic violence at thirteen
26:51: My relationship with my mum
29:23: Singing in bars when I was eight

Shania, I’ve listened to your music through the sound waves in my pre teens, teenage and now in my 30’s. Your music is simply timeless. I think you saved my mom’s life and healed mine on those dark days more than once. You’re a kind, genuine, charming and selfless women, even in real life not just in the media. There aren’t many stars other than you we can look up to these days. You have always been a consistent role model for us young girls and women. Thank you is not even enough, we Canadians are so incredibly proud of you. You’re truly a Canadian hero. 🇨🇦 ❤

Shania f*cking Twain !!! legend and god shes been through it,I remember reading about her life years ago and thinking "wow you just have no idea whats someone's been through and it would have been so easy to look at her and think shes beautiful and all that and not realise all that s*it in her background. I wish her all the best and hope she keeps healing, losing her voice and having her voice still be restricted or strained like it sounds it is must be really hard,it sounds like a real effort to speak, never mind sing. I hope she rocks Glastonbury !!!!!

Her book and album Queen of me. Were life changing for me . I also had a cheating husband with cancer and learning that he was having a long term romance relationship with my best friend and cousin .I thought she was my friend and I thought my husband was my friend after 30 years of being married to him . Shania became my icon after learning all of this . Her courage and strength gave me hope to a light at the end the tunnel ! They married 3 months after we divorced .Her music was therapy for me ! ❤ My favorite song on the album is The Hardest Stone !

It's called life experience. Shania is close to the same age as me with our birthdays a few months apart. I agree things that happen in life (divorce, lyme disease, losing the ability to sing) really suck to go through. However aging allows you to gain perspective. I like how Shania said she was resolved to just have a career in songwriting if she never got the voice back. And she turned the divorce into a good marriage with husband number two. She also turned early childhood trauma into a positive.

I went to see Shania at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas and she was great. She had her beautiful horse on stage and her horse was so calm. She would sing and pet him at the same time. It was so sweet the way she treated him.

So much to say and share and your music I simply love your voice, your sense of humour and what a beat you create when you sing. Congrats to both of you ❤❤❤❤

Shania has had to do this since her parents died. She didn’t have time to break down. She had to problem solve and she analyses everything. She had her siblings to raise and take care of. I don’t think she can ever stop. I hope she can one day sit on her porch retire and actually think about her life and how she made it. To the end❤.

Seeing her eyes glaze over talking about her lime disease!! That would be SO hard having your voice taken away when that’s what you do for a living!! I used to sing her music at our state fair on stages and can’t due to an autoimmune disease and it’s been really hard on me, but I don’t do it for my work so I just can’t even imagine because it’s already been hard on me!! I have read her book. Oh her growing up breaks my heart!! 💔 She is doing AMAZING!! I will always LOVE HER!! 💝 I just found Jamie!! Man LOVED this interview!! Just started following you. I can’t wait to look up more interviews!! 😍

At 9:03. Shania is talking about defining moments in a person's life: sudden loss, adultery, divorce, chronic illness, death of a loved one, tragic accidents, etc. People often are tainted as they age. It is not always a bad thing since those experiences allow for learning and growth. Of course, when one goes through those bad experiences it is not funny and is very painful.

That man interviewer could NEVER understand Shania. Even when I told another woman a similar situation if my own, its like falling in deaf ears. They obviously respond, or feel the person's (Shanias') emotional turmoil but thats about it. Battered women and daughters should draw lines so they can both heal. Because most likely they'll they keep making the same choices the mother made. You can even see women so dependent on their mothers, despite the awful choices, they listen and do what the mother says. Im so GLAD I RAN away from such a harmful person. Because if you're not thinking as a grown up as soon as you see red gmflags, you will always remain in the same place, with the same person, making the same generational mistakes. And females here in the States in general got a L.O.N.G way to go.
