I love how non-rock stars they are. They're just so shy and awkward and bookish. Thank you for this.

Nicky more so than Richey. Once Richey disappeared Nicky then had to step up to the plate.

Primo Levi. An Italian holocaust survivor who later wrote of his horrific times. That's the beauty of Richey's tastes, trash culture (hairspray) to heavy duty philosophical writers.

is answer at 2:00 is "i think we've always been about hypocrosy!" because richey famously said that the manics wanted to be a band that expolded onto the scene, made a great rock n roll first album, then split up as fast as they appeared on the music scene. And obviously, they are talking about the SECOND album, so they didn't do what they said they would! :-)

I think 'Brad' & '(the) Goats' are 2 bands, and he bought both their albums. Richey often reeled off names of (sometimes obscure) bands that the music journalist interviewing them would have been familiar with.

@rm009z0858 I wouldn't say Primo Levi's writing was "heavy-duty philosophy" - it was very readable, though obviously the subject matter was serious. I read his most famous book, If this is a man, and what I took from it was that he showed how he and some other people in the Nazi camps tried to maintain some kind of dignity and humanity, despite the fact everything was designed to break people down.

he was so mentally ill...he was not in the state of mind to disappear. some of his last photos are just haunting...he is barely recognizable. he needed much more than prozac. He needed time to start healing, and he was pushed right back on stage. and stints in psych hospitals don't do shit without therapy and proper medications. i went through all of his issues, and 20 years later i still struggle. things are a bit fishy, but the poor guy probably thought his body would be found, and not have this huge conspiracy around it. he should have left a note, but some people just don't. he committed suicide. he, like so many other beautiful artists just can't truly see that beauty. that is tragic.

@@plaguelover71 yes, i think so. i watched that dumb 4 part interview with him and he said richey was the love of his life...and that richey was also gay. he even saw a picture of some hippie dude and was convinced it was richey. traveled to france twice, finally found the guy, and of course it wasn't him. he and the interviewer think james never got on the flight to america, but it was richey who did. i didn't even think there was record of james leaving. i thought he went back to the hotel...? i don't know, but it's bollocks.

For the love of dogs, what does Richey say at 2:07 about his last good moment? It sounds like he says when he bought "Brad and Goats". Brad and Goats? what? Color me confused. I have lost track of how many times I replay that bit, trying to decipher what Richey said. I don't know if it's because of his (adorable) accent or if I'm trying too hard to figure it out. If anyone knows what Richey's answer was and posted it, I would imagine it would be one of those glaringly obvious moments that you feel silly about for not understanding it the 1st time around...

+Jane Katalane I almost wanna say he says "I went and bought Braddock coats". But not sure. Did the interviewer even know what he said?! She offered no meaningful response to that comment.

blunder and C Z, all great guesses as I'm still completely stumped and confused. if only I could get a transcript of this interview. Or maybe slow the audio way down somehow to see if that helps? At this point, it's kind of funny ( and/or nuts?) when I'm in my house and no one's around, I randomly say "brad and goats!!" kinda loud... Anyway, like C Z said, the interviewer didn't respond directly to what Richey's answer was, so maybe she didn't know either... I always assumed that whatever he's saying, is a title of a book since Richey was such an avid reader... Ah, Richey. my sweetness, you are deeply cherished as much as you are missed...

blunder15, 'ello again :D What a sweet comment you made regarding what you wrote about Richey's family and I completely agree... And no spoilers I promise, but I got that book about a year ago and I found it intriguing but also terribly sad...I had to put the book down several times when it got to be too emotional for me... And just like you, I also hope that his family will get an answer... It's as if Richey literally vanished off the face of the earth, but he's got to be out there, somewhere... I hope Richey is happy in whatever choice(s) he made, but I also hope that his family, bandmates, and friends will get a reunion with him someday...

The interviewer is so... awkward.. she doesn’t give much material to go off of
@bgeek
@bgeek Ай бұрын
She's usually very good and I do enjoy listening to her, but the positioning/framing of the interview looks somewhat false - the way she walks in and sits. That's what seems awkward to me. It would have been better in a regular seated 1-to-1 (2 in the this case) setting. It's trying to hard to be contemporary, almost vox-pop-like. You can tell it's early '90s!

Richey has great reply about people not wanting to look at themselves in the mirror. Nicky says "I'm not a woman so I can't really say... unfortunately" made me think of the lyrics "I wish I'd been born a girl instead of this wreck of a man".. he's lovely and sparkles, being a woman I can say make-up is to enhance our natural beauty.. officially.. but yeah, without it we're pretty ugly and don't like to see what's in the mirror.

I can't step out of the front door without concealer & eyebrow pencil to fill in eyebrow gaps. Blusher as well in winter. Then eyeshadow, eye liner & lipstick if I feel like it. My advice is not to buy cheap brands as they either look awful and/or they have toxic ingredients in them. Only buy expensive brands if you can afford it. You get what you pay for. During the first lockdown I only had access to supermarket brands when I ran out of lipstick & concealer & it wasn't as good as my usual brands. More difficult to apply. Wear colours that suit your natural colouring not follow out dated rules or the latest fashions.
