Completely agree with Shankar Ji that songs by ARR down south are more soulful. This is perhaps the reason why Hindi music dug its own grave. Lot of stereotypes and no originality. Thanks to ARR.. even this changed. Whatta man...what magic.❤

It's not about soulful ...hindi songs are soulful too...the thing is Hindi songs are more simple with simple rhythms and structure ie arrangements etc but Tamizh songs are more layered

You guys nailed The Moment of the Day which is what I expected this time that you might go for this insight of SM! Ofcrs, this entire episode is layered with such insights and a few more things that I didn’t know earlier. Firstly, like he said he’s more experimental and grew down South than North can be broadly agreed upon by anyone. But what I’d want to add to his analysis is he’s musical impact is bigger down south overall but he’s music actually evolved in late 90s and afterwards due to some projects he did in Bollywood too like Dil Se, Taal, Rang De Bsssnti, Swades, Earth, Water, Zubaida, Guru, Rocks’tar, etc before he ventured into international collaborations. There are many path breaking scores I felt he did in Bollywood some of which changed his very musical texture that he had in his initial 90s part. Yet the craziness in music and the soulful impact was probably way more down south because of his many commercial projects in Tamil. One could enjoy both the commercial flavour with a tinge of his experimentation without having to evolve his texture of music as the format for Tamil films he did were mostly commercial unlike in Bollywood where he did offbeat, crossover and not really commercial films at their core. Yet I feel Subhash Ghai was his best bet from North belt who shaped his musical sensibilities into complete Bollywood style unlike his previous scores as RGV and Mani ratnam are from here. Another outstanding feat that Rahman achieved as he how he also broke the stereotype (among countless others) of one singer per hero along with their monotony is simply unbelievable and remarkable yet I believe this was possible as he unleashed the power of his music beyond any one’s doubts that made his music the 🤴 King and the centrepiece of the entire song where the singer need not come first for the most part. The way he brought many track singers to limelight with even Superstars backing them up is all purely because of the magic in music. Luckily Shankar too believed on this is a great thing as he’s also one of the singers and composers to have broken certain accepted norms and stereotypes. Also, the fact that he won National Award for the song in Kandukondein which also won Filmfare awards was a surprise to me. Despite the film being a huge flop in Telugu, it still won awards in Tamil is quite surprising to me. Perhaps it’s a hit in Tamil which I’m really not aware. Yet Rahman didn’t won the Filmfare could be because he must have won for another movie in the same year which I guess could be Alai Payute. Still, all the songs in Kandukondein were also my favourites. It’s like his Taal score in Tamil Nadu- Carnatic classical sensibilities. Even today the scores in these films fill my heart 💜 with such boundless joy as they bring back all those childhood memories back to life also.

Man... I still listen to Donga Donga (Original Thiruda Thiruda in Tamil ) . Rehman wouldn't have tried those many variations in Hindi.

Yes sir. Even after becoming an established composer himself, Mr. Mahadevan continued singing for Mr. Rahman. Please refer to the 1st episode with Mr. Mahadevan (Epiosde 93) when we asked him - about dynamics - whaen a composer sings for another composer. Hope you saw that episode. If not Please do.. The irony is, ARR never sets one singer and said only this singer can do justice to the song as how Shankar describes it. While Shankar said No other singers can justify Dil Se songs, ARR took an entirely different sets of singer for the Tamil version, Uyire , and the songs sounded different and better to some of us. No disrespect to Udit or Sonu or Sukhwinder, but their songs in the Tamil version sounded allot more soulful thanks to Unnimenon, Srinivas and Sreeram. Even Lata'd jiya jale had different feel thanks to S. Janaki and her way of ending the song which felt more suitable for the tune. He constantly experiments with different singers for the songs So no, ARR doesnt believe in that theory either.

Such a stark contrast!! The guests and discussion points are excellent on one end. On the other end the interviewer's voice (and lisp) is so out of place.

@@O2india I hoped the channel will find it constructive rather than unusual, forgive me if I wasn't clear. I do love the content. As opposed to the audio quality of the guests' answers, the interviewers audio sounds as if recorded elsewhere and retrospectively (not live). The guests are pure talent therefore no considerations of 'accent' apply to them, however, it matters when it is the interviewers voice. I'm merely pointing out that it is jarring when it switches from guests' voice to the interviewers voice. Take for example the announcer lady's voice, its professional. But not the interviewer. My apologies again for being blunt, how else will the channel grow. I wish you only the best 🙏

What’s the point of asking questions to the point of worshiping ARR and making the singer uncomfortable? Stop this nonsense. Just ask the experience of working with ARR. Shankar is well established composer himself. It’s channels like this that ruins ARR’s reputation. Stop this madness.
