she probably went at that teacher the same way she went at shannon. Even when she right, she might get treated as wrong. It probably was more tone than anything and that actually matters. Everybody don't receive stuff the same way.

@@keithmoody5926Being the only or one of few Black kids surrounded by white kids in the 80's and 90's in Florida I guarantee was tough. You are outnumbered and they were already in power and used to that even in when the numbers were equal, but to be outnumbered that was not a great experience for her. I can understand why Amanda or anybody else would have a sour feeling after growing up like that. With that being said, Amanda has a big mouth and says whatever she feels like saying even when it would be best to not say nothing. In the 80's and 90's we was taught to respect our elders and listen to them, which I still do today in my mid 40's. These days these kids think they know more then their parents and every other adult and conduct themselves that way which is one of the reason why things are as bad as they are. You don't come out the womb knowing anything. You have to listen, pay attention to be taught and you can learn. But these kids think they have all the answers and know it all.

That’s the problem with this day and age. Nobody can have a conversation without being offended. They had a difference of opinion from looking at a situation from different perspectives. She hasn’t in any way said anything negative about her experience with this interview. Backlash? No backlash just people acting angry about something that she isn’t even angry about. SMH…

Shannon was clearly looking for clarification of her experience. Was it racism or was it a child speaking out a place to an adult during a time when most raised in the south did not behave that way? There are things as children we perceived one way and in reality it was another way. Was she most likely racist considering the era, yes. . Also, the second story of how the white kid stole something and sent them both to the office is most likely because the teacher did not like her considering the issues they had. As a black man I’ve learned that if I call someone a racist I would take what they say racially, call someone homophobic and take what they say hatefully.

Her teacher was mostly right, but phrased it wrong. The aboriginals had only reached a Stone Age level of technological advance by the time of introduction to the Europeans. They technically are not a Stone Age people because they exist in modern times as Amanda points out. But they have only reached the technological advance of Stoneage peoples and technologies. Of course, modern aboriginals have adopted modern technologies and are as advance as any other people on the planet.

Shannon is good people but he is wrong. I had teachers who deserved 'adult' respect, but i had teachers like what Amanda described. My parents taught us to 'speak up' becasue one dose of bull will turn into another dose of bull and another. When i moved to the south, i learned that black children were REGULARLY supposed to swallow the daily doses of bull, from what my friends shared with me. I'm SOOO glad I didn't go to school there. You have to speak up as a black person or you will be disrespected over and over... In 4th grade, My peers and I even got a teacher REMOVED for the small doses of bull she would feed us, because there were only a handful of black children in my school. So after checking her we all went home and told our parents. All our parents came up and got her but removed and sent to work in the admin or somewhere. (she never taught again!) But if we never spoke up, she would have been able to feed constant doses of bullshit year after year until she retired. In a day when a child can stand up in class and tell a teacher that he/she can't teach about black history, and probably get the teacher disciplined, Shannon and many other commenters have a problem with Amanda checking a teacher??? GTFOH.
@chewdoom8415

Nowhere in that interview did Shannon say that it was a problem, he just gave her different perspective of what the teacher's issue was. We have to recognize when we are getting on the defensive based on how we feel about a topic and not because of what the person actually said. Amanda and others who interpreted what Shannon said Like that felt like your actions were being shunned and that how the teachers taught and behaved was justified, which was not the case. A key thing that you mentioned is how your parents were the ones who you went to in order to put things into action, despite the fact that you all stood up in class. There was no further discussion on other examples conferences that were result of her correcting a teacher or standing up from other students. So either this never came up with non white teachers, or they saw no problem with it. Keep in mind that Shannon said this before she mentioned the thing about the stealing. No one is denying that the teacher could have had it in for amanda, and she was definitely ignorant of what she was teaching and seemed prejudice, but constantly correcting the teacher in front of your classmates being deemed as disrespectful is pretty common.

@@theProductionGuy11 You are proving my point about people getting defensive because of how they feel. My whole comment is based on the fact thar toy said "Shannon is wrong". There is nothing for him to be wrong about when he just provided a different perspective. He never said that there was a problem with checkinga a teacher. Yes, some adults do not act in a manner that is deserving of respect. None of what I said is in opposition to what you said about black students standing up. All I did was explain to you how Shannon did not say there was a problem and gave an explanation on his perspective. Now I am the one who is confused by what you got from my comment.

@@chewdoom8415 Defensive? You’re funny, dude. Again, you have now twice read something that is on you and your interpretation. The one thing I DON’T DO is debate online. and that is why i simply wished you well. But somehow you got ‘DEFENSIVE’, from me wishing you a good day. imagine if i had actually tried to explain my comment to you and what i was specially in contrast with in his statements. Who KNOWS what interpretation you would have gotten …which is why i DO NOT debate online. when I said “have a good one” I truly was wishing you well, like i would anyone. Imagine that, not debating & correcting your interpretation but simply wishing you a good day = defensive. I promise not to wish you a good rest of the day. Good luck? ...Bye?

@@theProductionGuy11 I am not defensive. I had not problem with you saying have a nice day. But you seemed to miss my point entirely. You said that Shannon and others had a problem with Amanda checking a teacher and I was just explaining that Shannon never Said it was wrong in the interview, but only gave a different perspective of what the teacher's issue is. I wasn't defensive but the "hmmm... if that's what you got out of my comment" gave me the impression that you did not understand what I was even getting at. I really did not mean to come off as being offensive or assuming your thoughts, but I was just trying to point out the fact that, from what I saw and heard, you stated something that did not happen, and while what you said about us in the black community standing up was important, it is just as important to make sure we get our account of events right to make communication better so there is no misunderstandings. I'm not trying to debate. If what I said about Shannon's statements is not something that you agree with as being true, then that's fine. I just honestly thought that you misunderstood. You don't have to reply and i appreciate the sincerity in wishing me a good day. I wish you the same.
