Hopefully you will learn from my experience and avoid this common beginner's mistake in Spanish
So quick review: 'me gustas' = 'I like you' and 'te gusto' = you like me
Hope this was helpful!

Be careful, though. "I like you" would be translated as "Me caes bien" if you want to say you like spending time with someone as a friend. If you say "Me gustas" people might think you like them in a romantic way.

Solo quise ampliar los posibles significados de "¿Te gustó?", puesto que el sujeto implícito podría ser "él" o "ella" y referirse tanto a una persona (he/she) como a un objeto inanimado (it). Refer to it as gustarse. Because it's better understood as "to be pleasing" rather than "to please." It's not something that it does to you. It's from the perspective of the object but it's still your opinion. Not something the object does to you. For example, someone may be pleasing to you in the sense that you like them, but it requires no effort or even participation on their part. They aren't doing anything to you. It's just your opinion. Think of it, not as pleasing you, but you finding it to _be_ pleasing.

Ah lo que pasa es que si lo vemos a tu perspectiva en "i like You" también el "You" causa efecto en "I", entonces piensas "te gustó", pero si te fijas bien el "i like the book" el que genera ese gusto es la persona no el libro, es decir, si fuera de ese modo sería "le gustó al libro", capito? Pero no, porque el libro si influye pero no le sale el sentimiento.....so, "i like You", quien influye? You (tu), quien genera el sentimiento? I (yo), por eso es "me gustas"😉👌

That reminds me the time i though "molestar" wich would be "bothering" was instead "molesting". So instead of saying "he is bothering me", i went to the teacher and tell her "a dude was molesting me" 😂. I remember her paninc face instead of her angry face and i figured out i might have said something wrong xd

El sujeto del verbo gustar es el libro, otra persona, un cuadro, etc. y el complemento indirecto es la persona sobre quien recae ese gusto. Es una transformación de "el libro gusta a mí", cambiando "a mi" por "me" y poniéndolo delante del verbo "tú gustas a mí " ="tú me gustas". Quizá lo que confunde es que, en español, "me" nunca es igual que "yo"

I want to say I'm confident others have pointed it out to you by now, but here are a few things to consider. 1) "Te gusto" with the stress on the "u" means "You like me". When said as a statement, it sounds like you are exerting dominance. 2) "The gustó" with the stress on the "o", means "You liked it". Could be used when referring to an object or a situation; food, the weather, the entire day, etc. 3) More importantly you should and very likely do know that Spanish changes from region to region and some meaning for certain phrases change sometimes slightly others significantly. The reason I say this is that growing up, the word "gustar" has always meant "to like" the same way as in English when referring to an object, or a situation. "Me gusta la comida china" - "I like Chinese food" "Me gustan mucho las rosas" - "I like roses a lot" *BUT* Whenever used toward _someone_, the meaning changes from "liking" to "*liking* liking" at least where I grew up, hence why I brought up the whole region to region. Maybe it isn't true everywhere else, but if you say "Me gustas" to someone, be ready for them to blush or be taken aback. "Me gustas" doesn't just mean "I like you" in the way it would be used in English at least, you're pretty much confessing your romantic feelings toward the person you are saying it to. 4) Here are a few alternatives if you want to convey a feeling of liking someone in a more platonic manner, so to speak. "Me caes bien." - "I like you." (literally "You fall well on me." "Me agradas." - "I like you." "Me simpatizas." - "I like you." It becomes very confusing when trying to make sense of them when translating directly or literally, but think of them as fixed phrases used in Spanish to show feelings of friendliness toward others. In conclusion, we all make embarrassing mistakes when learning a new language, but you aren't the first and won't be the last. Keep it up. ¡Buena suerte!

That's called "stress", it's the way we emphasize how words are pronounced plus the tone + volume + pitch + inttention of what we trying to say. In English i think it's a bit easier than Spanish (aside I'm Chilean) but that's how it works. Mostly because you can say "te gustó" but it doesn't mean the same as "te gusto", in "te gustó" is when you apply past tense in the conjugation of the verb, in this case, the verb is "gustar" and with past tense it goes like "gustó" the main point is to know that "gustó" applies for each pronoun "a él le gustó, a ella le gustó, a ti te gustó, a ellos les gustó, a nosotros nos gustó" but what about "gusto", "gusto" in this case is also a verb, but the main difference with "gusto" is the stress wich goes on the first sillable "gus" so with the tilde (the little stick we use to mark the stress) it would sound gústo, but in this case some words don't have tilde but they have stress. Is not easy, but is not impossible, and as a latina English teacher, I really appreciate your effort and discipline to learn my language ❤ keep going girl! I bet you're gonna be speaking as a native very soon!

Theres also this thing about the "to be" verb and adjectives in Spanish. First there's "ser", which is more like to just exist, and then there's "estar" which is more commonly used to also express state. So you gotta be careful when saying something like "im bored" in Spanish since, instead of the more appropriate form "estoy aburrido" you might accidentally say "soy aburrido" ("im boring")

Also it's difficult for foreigners to find the tonic syllables (the syllable emphasised in the word, you can tell there's always a stronger sounding syllable in the word) in most cases you can easily tell by the "tilde/acento". In this case if you say "te gustó" with a tilde it means "you liked it" whereas "te GUSto" means "you like me"
@LuNa7xd

My mom is Indonesian and in Bahasa Indonesia they don't have a fixed tonic syllable, so it doesn't matter, sometimes it emphasizes a way of expressing emotion but you could say it in any way and they would be perfectly understandable, not in Spanish though, so my mom struggled a lot with that. Spanish can be really difficult to understand tbh it's too complicated, I always feared the congujation tests in school. It also happens to me when I try to speak chinese bc most of the time I'm not sure if I'm saying it correctly so I finish the words with a ? tone at the end and that's a specific tone in mandarin so it changes the word completely 😅

The way you accentuate “gusto” is more like “gustó” so it would really be understood as the second singular person, past perfect. Something like “You liked that so much”
