The only problem with bamboo is that it doesnt have any industry around it... It is not a consumable... So for farmers who grow it... What is the assurity for its sale... Say for example... Sugarcane... The cooperative factories take it at determined rates so the farmers are sure to get their worth... For bamboo... No such surety is there... At least now.. so without any surety... No farmer is going to take this risk... It will nil their effort... In order to mould farming... Industries have to understand that cultivation is not a problem worldwide... The methods followed after cultivation... Bring money for the product... The product required by industries ... Will be cultivated by farmers... Transporation is the largest constraint... The companies have to insure the produce from the farm to the factory... Completely!!!

While it's true there are SOME (very lame and weak) alloys of steel with less strength than that - all useful alloys are considerably stronger. The I-beams used in most structures are made of a rather weak alloy called "A36" which has a tensile strength of about 70,000psi, nearly triple that of bamboo. Typical steel used for tools (like wrenches, sockets, prybars, etc) is usually heat treated carbon steel and has tensile strength of more than 200,000 psi... Sorry for the technical engineering stuff, but somebody needed to point this out.
