In this video, I show my process for laying out, grinding, and finishing an octagonal western handle for an integral chef knife. I tried to be as thorough as possible with my explanations to make it easy to follow for any knife maker who wants to try it. For non-knife makers, this video offers a window into the care and attention to detail I put into making my finest knives.

Great video Jordan. Thank you very much for taking the time to put it together. There aren't that many good tutorials on these more advanced knifemaking topics, so I'm really greatful for this one.

That was awesome and very simple to follow. Can I ask how did you make your "soft platen"?

Great video for sure. Did you epoxy the handle onto the tang at some point?

Great explainer. As to the knife, beautiful geometry, attention to detail- spoiled, me thinks, by etching noise. It’s like a gobsmackingly attractive face... with an extra nose in the middle of the forehead. I’d rather see the etching complement the blade geometry.

Did you make the soft backer for your platen yourself? If so, any tips on how to do so? Same question for what you have on your vise to protect the item being clamped from the vise jaws. Thanks!
@jordanlamothe6818
@jordanlamothe6818 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I did. The backer is just felt and leather glued to a flat piece of steel, and the soft jaws are yellow brass sheet, cut and bent around the vise.
