Ok, now I'm pissed off! You've done exactly what I did but as I went from the narrow waist of the guitar towards the wider horn the router ripped off a massive chunk of the timber along the line of the grain. What am I doing wrong? Or is that just the nature of the ash I chose for the body?

A few things to check: bandsaw as close to the line as possible. I mean SUPER close. This leaves very little wood for the router blades to remove. Also, keep absolute control over the body. Don't let it move the slightest amount except in the direction of travel. I always cut against INTO the rotation of the blade. I've had more than one body escape me and fly across the room. That was back in the learning period, before the CNC machine took over this task.

I also use paddles to hold down the wood FIRMLY against the blade.

It is a solid carbide compression flush trim bit from Infinity Tools.
