You can approach him but he may not acknowledge you. Saw him do this during the Vegas Grand Prix, the host approached him during the nationally televised pit walk before the race and Shaq acted like the guy didn't even exist.

Like a lot of others I had a lot of respect for Shaq, I never followed sports that much, was a swimmer in my youth competed on teams etc. just never got into Basketball (even tho I played in school) but I digress, Shaq has shown me that you can achieve great success and fortune and still be humble and giving where it is needed and deserved. thank you Shaq for restoring my faith in humanity.
