I was in Sangin on Op Herrick 8 in 2008. In July/Aug we were in a firefight with insurgents by the canal that ran south from the DC. We had a Harrier do a low level show of force. When I say low level it came down the canal and I swear I was looking DOWN at it. It was at tree top height and we were on a raised embankment. One of the most impressive things I've ever seen an aircraft do. As this was late July, early August, it was probably the NSW who did it. An aside to the show of force, we were ordered to fix bayonets during that firefight. Hearing that order got the adrenaline flowing.

Overall, Rafale development and readiness has been slightly ahead of Typhoon. Since Sea Harrier was withdrawn in 2006, he probably crossed Rafale M F1, which was a limited batch of 10 aircraft to iron out bugs really, and because French Navy was in the most desperate need to get air defense fighters at the earliest. So Rafale M F1 were "early access" variants. But they had some exchange pilots from French Air Force with Mirage 2000 experience. Some of them were air defense experts. From 2009 French Navy started to use Rafale M F3 with new avionics. Great interview, what a career he had ! 👍🏻

Indeed, still today, the Rafale has an AESA radar yet the Typhoon does not (which to me is unbelievable and a disgrace).

@@KRGruner Wow, half our CF-18 fleet is getting SuperHornet AESA RADAR as we speak as well as JSOW, AIM-9X Block 2, and the AIM-120D we bought in 2017.. I never would have guessed that Typhoon was still mechanical.

Constructive feedback only- but you have to trim your “likes.” I had the same issue with “okay” until an instructor told me to check it and once I was aware of it I was able to get rid of it… Love the channel but I don’t like the “likes.”

Awesome. Great comment about F/A-18 vs F-22. F-22 is vastly superior in pure aero performance but this is offset by lack of helmet-mounted cueing system with AIM-9X. I guess this is being addressed but not sure of the exact status on that upgrade. But that's also a clue as to why you do NOT want to get into a turning fight unless absolutely necessary and why stealth is so important.

Some feedback for you Mike, you're starting to get that annoying modern trait of using the word "like" way too much. You used it 9 times in one long sentence at the 5 minute mark...
