This has got to be on the 900mhz wifi, low bandwidth but long range and fantastic penetration

It’s actually 2.4ghz. Max bandwidth is around 30mbps per device with full signal in my yard. Gets about 10-12 mbps per device through the bushes. Have speed tested 2 devices simultaneously and each will get 10 but not more than that

@@budgetmagnate2430 max speed for 2.4 is 300mbs, max for 900mhz is 20mbs!!!

You just need what's called an outdoor patch antenna. Those have about 10 DB of gain. I would not bother with a dish or yagi antenna. Up at the cabin in the wilderness in Minnesota I'm getting Internet about 250 yards away out on the lake.

If you're feeding wifi to your mother, use directional antennas at least.

i'm researching for my cousin to get internet from his moms house.. she has cable internet at the road (nowhere,va) and he's 800ft up the lane from her but the lane bends a bit with trees on both sides.. he's got a good $300 budget for installation and setup as opposed to having dsl run up the lane for $60 a month.. i'm looking at bridges to set up a wifi router in his house to feed his tv, pc, any conected phones and his xbox... what do you think??

Something like this setup would probably work, they are supposed to go up to a mile, but you’d need line of sight to get that far. I’m about 500-600 feet away point to point, 150- 200 of which is bush.

Why not just run a piece of fiber ? You can get pre-made / terminated fiber for cheap. Grab a old garden hose. run it on the ground with the fiber cable inside it and poof.

That’s a cool idea, never thought of that! It would be several hundred feet though and through a creek.

Id put it into a old garden hose or a piece of tube. Easily done !!@@budgetmagnate2430

better option: you can buy an outdoor optical fiber already designed to be buried or laid on the ground and exposed to the elements (pre-terminated of course!!!!) You may also need two waterproof fiber boxes designed for outdoor use and two fiber patches to reach inside the buildings (outdoor rated fibers are thick and hard to bend!) and you definitely need a pair of ethernet to fiber converters.

I think a uisp airmax nanostation m2 would probably work for what you want. I'd try and mount them up higher. Then run an access point inside your mothers house.

Thanks for your comment. I’ve been looking at those. The old system has been working well, save for having to unplug and plug back in the gateway node every so often.

Surprising result but then when you think about it wifi often goes through solid walls in peoples houses. Have you considered putting the other one higher than that or even putting them both higher. They look so light that they could easily be clamped to a TV pole?
@budgetmagnate2430
@budgetmagnate2430 10 ай бұрын
Yes i think it would work better if both were higher. The one on the receiving end at least needs to be higher as the ground occludes the fresnel zone according to the calculator. Still works well enough though

Ethernet cable through the bushes?
@mm345-0
@mm345-0 10 ай бұрын
One issue with having ethernet in the ground (buried, laying on the ground, etc..) is that it's a copper conductor. If lighting were to hit on or near and charge that cable, it'll melt anything plugged into either end of it (and potentially anything plugged into whatever it was also plugged into!). There was a 8bit guy episode on where he had that happen with his house and his mom's (buried cat5 cable, got zapped, melted/destroyed routers, switches, attached computers). The only safe way to have a cable is a conduit with fiber (way more expensive, but no risk of damaging expensive router/networking/computer equipment.
