At Sharjah, April 12. Pakistan won by 38 runs. Toss: India.
Azharuddin's decision to send Pakistan in, on an excellent batting pitch in hot weather, was questionable. After Srinath beat Aamir Sohail with his first delivery and started the match with a maiden, the advantage lay almost entirely with Pakistan. Sohail advanced to his fifth century in limited-overs internationals and set India a target of nearly five and a half an over. They made a bad start: Tendulkar drove a wide ball to cover and Saqlain Mushtaq's off-spin and Mushtaq Ahmed's leg-spin reduced India to 95 for five. Mongia, who helped Manjrekar to add 116 for the sixth wicket, scored his maiden fifty at this level before he was last out.
Man of the Match: Aamir Sohail.

@@deepakrajamin977, saeed anwar had series winning hundreds in newzealand 1994 and England 1996. Saeed anwar scored a match winning hundred at Durban test 1998. Also scored a ton at gabba test 1999 but Pakistan lost that. Anwar always scored runs in SENA. I think you are confusing your flopudlkar with saeed who never scored any match winning hundred in Australia and southafrica.

Thanks for sharing the highlights. I was there at sharjah Stadium as a school boy to watch this match. Back then, it use to be exciting watching India vs. pak and eagerly awaited for Games at sharjah Stadium. Sadly, cricket has lost its charm now as in modern era cricketers use modern bats with 6 getting hit every now then. See if you can post late 80s and 90s maches...really worth watching again and again. Thanks for bringing back good old memories

When Team India was fuddhu 50 percent winning chances gone when Tendulkar got out early... Favoritism played a huge role initially. Basterd Maharashtra,Delhi,kolkatta,Chennai these four states didn't allow anyone other states talent to be in Indian cricket team..... After 2000 trends changed. Players from small districts selected in Indian team and raise the winning percentage .... Chahal Kuldeep Kaif Yuvraj Siraj Raina Best example Dhoni Etc etc.....

Now,look at this indian team in 1990s 🤣😂.this.those times were golden times for whole Pakistan but really worst times for indian cricket . Sachin tendulkar was one of the only pillar in the team that time..the game between ind and pak was always between pakistan vs sachin tendulkar..indian batting line up those days was so poor and untrustworthy..they had talent but versus other teams..whenever these guys were playing against pakistan,,batting line up was never ever looked trustworthy. To win a match against Pakistan that time was really a big achievement for india in 90's.. INDIA,Was a normal team like zimbabwe or kenya that time...everything changed after saurav gangully came in indian team..once he became captain ,he told each n every player ,how to fight till end.. and slowly slowly gangully showed whole world that INDIA Was only lacking of a good and brave captain..AND Once gangully got all the rights to select the players and team..he did unbelievable task by selecting new young and very well talented players likes of yuvraj singh,harbhajan singh,verender sehwag,zaheer khan,m.kaif and a lot more..and the last and biggest change he brought in those players and whole team was!!!! The spirit to play as one team,no matter whats the situation,have to play attacking cricket instead of defensive cricket..from his time and near from 2000 till yuvi,veeru,bhajji and zak came in.. i think india hardly lost matches against pakistan after these all came ..

Under ganguly India was losing as well except one odd series win. I remember Pakistan beat india in four matches in row starting from Asia cup 2004, odi in holland, champions trophy quarterfinal 2004 and Kolkata jubilee cup match 2004. Then Pakistan toured india in 2005 and Pakistan lost first 2 odis snd then won four odis in a row in India and won the series. So last 10 matches record was Pakistan 8 and india 2. One thing is india did improve under ganguly and it continued to get better under dravid and dhoni finally reaped the rewards where he got the team which actually could challenge Pakistan everywhere.

Tend to disagree bhai … u r right in this regard that India was very week team in 90s with just Azhar as gud batsman in wary 90s while Sachin as only gud batsman in later 90s with no quality bowler but still India manages to win 12 cups in 90s without any bowler .. nd caption cannot in hunting for bowler or batsman .. his resources r very limited with just 14 players at his disposal .. India in 90s were unbeatable in test at home won 12 cups .. beat pakistan in 2-3 finals .. beat Australia twice in finals .. u see azhar in 90s India was very fighting team without any fast bowler and without any batsman other azhar and Sachin .. as u compare with gangulay and Dhoni teams .. they both have quality bowlers and batsman while azhar don’t have this luxury… even Sachin won 1-2 cups under his leadership with this week team

Team India lost the match when Moh'd Azharuddin won the toss and chose to field. Moh'd Azharuddin's blunder to field against Sri Lanka in the 1996 World Cup semi final cost India dearly. Team India was a 1 man army in the 1990's and the added pressure of captaincy took a heavy toll on Moh'd Azharuddin as a batsman.

Had Robin Singh played instead of Mohammed Azharuddin and Venkatesh Prasad played instead of Prashant Vaidya then India would have won the match against Pakistan instead of loosing by a margin of 32 runs in the opening match 1996 Sharjah Cup ODI tri series.

An ODI team with players like Manjrekar and Dravid both being misfit for this format plus a horrible captain like Azar could only lose. Azar was horrible in Sharjah except for one or two odd innings. Don't think any of these players would have got a chance to represent India in today's time. Pakistan would invariably defeat them from mid 80s till late 90s.

Yes in the second round robin game India scored 305 with centuries from Sachin and Siddhu....and a quick fire 29(12) from Azhar led India to their first ever 300 score. Can never ever forget that match having watched it live.....super special moment to reach 300 mark for first time. Pak responded well to score 277 giving us 28 run victory

Sanjay Manjrekar retired from cricket in 1996 nov , Sidhu retired in 1999 Jan , Kambli was not in form in 1999

@@1996Amitava Sidhu was dropped from ODIs due to inability to perform in SENA countries. He scored 2 100s in West Indies though but not swinging conditions. He debuted in 1983 remember and recalled in 87 world cup. Kambli was given chances but couldnt cement place after 1996 world cup. Manjrekar last played in Titan cup but couldn't score runs. Dropped for good.

Under Ganguly India won test and ODI series in Pakistan even before Dhoni and Kohli came to cricket .. India won aginst pak in sahara cup 1997 with dominance of Ganguly where he was awarded 4 consecutive mom which is still a record today in odis 😅 Under Dhoni pakistan came to India in 2013 and thrashed india in odis series when kohli surrendered before junaid khan.. Kohli is only Indian captain who lost against Pakistan in World Cup…😅😅 India won 6 World Cup matches against Pakistan even before dhoni and kohli came to cricket.. @@anirban37, you are forgetting one thing after 1996 Sahara cup Pakistan never sent their full strength team. In 1997 Sahara cup there was no wasim, waqar , Amir sohail and mushtaq Ahmad. All were rested / not available due to county commitments. Ramiz raja who used to warm benches was made captain. Independence cup 1998 also there was no wasim and waqar. Rookie Pakistani bowling attack could not defend that target. Against full strength Pakistani team India always struggled from 1998 till 1999 Pakistan won 8 matches in a row against india. Three of them were played in india.

Babar Rizwan are not selfish batters,they know there is no strong middle order and lower order. Saeed anwar and Aamir Sohail can play freely because they know inzamam,ijaz, imran Khan,miadaad will handle middle order. But rizwan and babar have no backup.

Now a days middle order is very poor in comparison of star players like Imran Khan Razzaq Yusuf Inzamam Ijaz Javed miadaad. Today Pakistan has no strong established batters in middle order.
