Literally the last line in the story was: “Sharks though generally avoid people, so the risk remains very low.”…..doesn’t sound like an agenda is being put forward in this piece at least…

@@zeroceiling perhaps you don't see them studying and then turning into control but I do and that's okay if we don't agree. But the title speaks about someone who is attacked in Florida and I live in Florida and I wanted to hear circumstances into which this took place. Most likely the Atlantic. Usually the person is swimming at dusk or Dawn. I suggest a change of title would be "increase of shark attack over the last decade" barely spoke about FL.

Lol, seals can absolutly gather in florida. They may not stay but they can definetly be there. They dont hunt people, they follow the food... sharks attacking people are more often a mistake than intentional. Which is likely the reason people survive attacks, if a shark wanted to eat a person or wanted them dead i dont think there is much you would be able to do. Especially if you are now wounded and just floating in the water waiting to be saved.

As european i didnt understand why americans dont swim far from shores at first They usualy only tan. Go for a swim no more then a 100 feet from shores and thats it Then i understood you guys beaches are litteraly located on the ocean While us in europe. Our mediteranian sea is just a salty huge lake. Connected to the ocean by a 20 km bay south of spain Meaning new sharks in that sea are rare. And due to centuries of overfishing since antiquity. Its very rare to meet a shark. Thats why in europe people swim far from shore

Randy Mullins Sorry dude but the guy has an absolutely valid point! Overfishing is most often a very quick and dramatic event which does not allow apex predators to simply “acclimatize”. If the food source disappears over perhaps a decade, then bravo zulu is absolutely right, the sharks will simply die off. And as a matter of fact, you pretty much as confirm this with your comment about oceanic dead-zones due to overfishing. If you are somehow trying to tie shark attacks on people as some kind of a Darwinian adaptation strategy they are evolving to, then you need to settle down and possibly demand your money back for any course you may have taken on the subject.

Talk about moronic statements! There is an explosion of shark population because there is a moratorium on seal and sea lion hunting. They are THE primary source of food for sharks..and yes..populations of sharks have increased because of increase in their food source..that’s how balance of nature works! The odd, unfortunate..or at times dumb person accidentally gets in the way and is mistaken for food. Lions don’t go into the ocean to get dinner…and sharks don’t seek land-dwelling creatures like us as a regular food source either.

Sharks usually go after humans because their silhouette is close to that of a seal and with floaties on they look like turtles to them. Sharks don't like the taste of humans and they have very poor sight so when an attack on a person happens its because they thought they were going for a seal or other sea critter. Humans actually taste horrible to sharks.

The initial attack wasn't caught on film , but the rest was Just a few meters off the coast ..You'll see a video of a guy missing his bottom half of his body face down , Then a few moments later shark comes back and swallowed him whole... While 2 guys are filming and were fishing... Turns out the guy I think his name is Simon Nellist pretty tall guy he was 6'5.. Well anyway nothing was found of him... Shark had to be extremely hungry to polish him off like that.. viewer beware if you do actually see the video.. it's still on KZfaq I just checked can't send your video links without getting deleted... Very sad he lost his life ..I remember hearing about it on the news earlier this year I didn't know they actually had footage right after the initial strike until he was fully consumed.. rip sir as you can tell the video speaks for itself , and still bothers me..

Yeah..I saw that one as well..,and actually couldn’t quite believe it at first. With that being said, Simon was training for some kind of a triathlon and swam that stretch daily..despite some serious warnings and acknowledgement of the fact that the area is very rugged with sheer drop offs…and hence a typical shark hunting ground. I do have to say though, when that thing came up again and all you saw was the big fin…and then Simon gone…pretty much eliminated any illusions I may have had about sharks not wanting to eat humans. They may actually think we’re delicious..and a rare treat…
