I mean, it's soup. Doesn't have to be perfect. The sharks don't want to invest in a business that sells a 3 day supply of soup for $100 and costs them $50 to make. It's an extremely niche product and that's perfectly fine but their growth is stunted unless they lowers costs to produce and cost to consumers. Their valuation was way too high

Ye i thought the same but when you think about even if they gain 100k new customers from the hype they will only make 5% off them,its not enough,if they were clever after the show they should have made each soup $1-$2 more(for new customers) to profit off the increase in hype and get the cash injection they need,people will pay more for something thats trending.

No, she’s not in the right. You don’t come to an investor asking for money claiming a $5m valuation when you are maintaining a 5% profit margin, and actively refusing to give up an unnoticeable amount of quality by refusing to use a co-packer. Whether they make $500 million or $1 million, 5% profit implies their fixed costs and QA will consistently be a burden to their profitability. You need to be able to give up quality if you want to profit from nationalizing like they want, otherwise stay local.

You see so many Shark Tank deals get agreed to on the show that end up falling through later. This was one of the only times I can recall seeing the inverse - the Sharks rejected them but Matt later called them up and changed his mind. They brokered and finalized a deal after the fact

One thing about the entire "tank" is that they're firmly entrenched in stale "in the box" thinking. It's the reason they passed on the Ring doorbell security system. @@klocke5247 about this company, the issues were not about the product at all. Their business did not have a good profit margin. I always find it interesting when businesses say “we made 1 million dollars in Total revenue.” My first thought afterwards is always “how much profit did you bring in?” Doesn’t matter how much money you make if you can’t keep it for the business. Honestly, I’ve seen more deals not close based on finances lately instead of the product itself.
@klocke5247
@klocke5247 Жыл бұрын
@@Pickledfeet165 Don't know if that's true for this product, but it often is the case that mass production is required in order to get the manufacturing costs down to where you can have both a good margin and an attractive retail price. That's the "scaling" often mentioned. Kind of the point of going to venture capitalists. To get the financial backing to do just that. The sharks misjudged the market badly. Obviously, Amazon didn't, and somebody would have jumped on it if they didn't. My pet peeves about the show is kind of the opposite of yours. When the sharks get so pleased about an outrageous markup, I always think so what? Literally anyone can try to sell something for $25 that only cost them $1.75. Maybe, but I have never seen a soup themed restaurant make it. The restaurant game is just a different beast.
