That’s only a Texas thing. None of the other gulf states require tags and it’s one per person. Not per boat. They have multiple people in the boat and those could still be right in slot

Depending on where they are, some states allow 1 fish of your limit to be over slot. I'm from Louisiana, a place it's allowed, but I don't keep over slot reds. Sometimes, I don't keep upper slots. Not every fishery is the same, not all regulations are the same.

I grew up on the outer banks with my dad catching huge striped off the coast while I was a kid and now they don’t exist there due to netting and overfishing. Red drum are already getting close to that point now, nothing will stop human greed 😊

@GENERALZOD88 larger fish are older, therefore they have older meat. It is usually not as flakey and fresh as smaller, younger fish. Often times, they have more chemicals and parasites in them as well

@@mastertrey4683 I’m on the fence with this one… on a charter, (I run charter and tournaments) I say yes they should. We get hundreds of kids a year with adults. Let’s face it, we’re commercial fishing boats. If we had a child every day of the year catch a fish on one boat, that’s 365 fish. Now just imagine how many charter boats there are! On the other side of the fence, I don’t think they should count if it’s just a guardian/child kind of outing themselves. Things change when you get a charter involved! As long as they’re on their private boat, I’d even say that they might get a larger slot margin if they’re too young for a fishing license!

If it makes you feel any better they did a study of gulf redfish recently and found that 1 in 3 mature redfish are full of pharmaceutical runoff that can be transferred to whoever eats them. The inherent penalty for keeping overslot reds is consuming birth control, opiates and every other awful pharma metabolite you can name.
