The writers completely ruined Den by this point, he just became vile.

I feel sorry for Vicki, hearing Dirty Den - her own father basically saying that he prefers Sharon over her. I mean, you don't choose out of your children who you care more than the other. Vicki brought Dirty Den back to Albert Square to reunite with Sharon and that's the thanks Vicki gets? Hearing from her own Dad's mouth that no-one even Vicki comes close to Sharon. That's just disgusting!

Always found it creepy how Den cares more about Sharon than Dennis and Vicki. The main reason he does is because Sharon was born and raised in a time when he was basically on top of Walford.

Den's 'love' for Sharon was sick, twisted and creepy. He wanted to possess and control her. Sharon fell in love with Dennis because he reminded her of what Den was back in the day. Yeah it's messed up, but trying to force Dennis and Sharon to just switch off their feelings was impossible. This was written in the stars. Den was in an uncomfortable situation but the fact is that Sharon and Dennis aren't related - he should have just accepted it in the end like everyone else. Stomping his feet, saying "no" and trying to control Sharon was going to rip apart his family ... which is exactly what it did. In the end he died a lonely, bitter old man with everyone in his own family hating his guts and no friends. The people who attended his funeral sure as hell didn't do it for him, it was for Sharon.

den is very selfish and heartless

2004 was very off-and-on but it started and ended very strong. Other than the tedious inevitability of Sharon disappearing into a cab again (only to obviously return) and the beginning of Molfie I don’t think anyone can argue that this particular Christmas episode was one of the best. 2007 on the other hand had similar fluidity and an epic reveal but a much sordier premise of storyline (Max. sleeping with an 18/19-year-old). I imagine more people were invested in Shannis as an overall storyline than Stax so the reveal for it was at least just as rewarding all-round.
