Great tutorial. Thank you for putting this up. PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO SECURING THE SCAN DRIVE BOARDs as shown in 1:40 of the video. I didn't and tore three of the four ribbon connector loose. Guess what...no more picture and it is not something that you can fix once they are loose. I would recommend putting extra tape over the ribbon connectors and attaching these to the board in addition to taping the boards to the screen. I got impatient and figured "what can it hurt if they dangle?" Well, here we are... no more TV and as far as I can tell, the screen witht he attached scan drive boards is not something you can get.

This is great, but I'd add one thing: many of these TVs have adhesives EVERYWHERE. Be VERY careful and do not apply any significant force, especially to the LCD panel. If that's glued or stuck down, I'd actually recommend against using suction cups, as mentioned by other commenters. I managed to fix my TV with only a minor tear to the reflector sheet but it was nerve wracking for a bit there as every step from the LCD panel on ran into adhesive issues not mentioned in this video.

I wish I'd read this a couple hours ago. The video makes it look too easy. I cracked my screen when lifting it off because it was REALLY glued down in one spot. The LED strips can go back now, I guess.

@@russell1047 I just very gently worked it off -- I did tear my reflector in a few places, but they were very minor.

Same. We just did ours but cracked the screen slightly because it was glued on the top. It is best to run something under it lightly to loosen it before lifting. We messed up when we were putting it back together and the trim didn’t align. The 731U also has the reflector glued but as mentioned in another vid, you can cut around the LED strips to replace them. Either way, it was a pain in the ass but doable if you are gentle enough with it. Ugh

Hey Jimmy have a question. I'm fixing my laptop. On the circuit board there is a broken connector that the wire ribbon slides into then you shut this little flap to pinch the ribbon wire. What are those connectors with the flap called?

So as i understand if i have voltage at the led plug on the power board, 65vdc i think, then its plausible that i should replace all the leds?

Great video Jimmy; Question: one of the 6 ribbon cables attached to the scan drive board has dried out and cannot be glued back in place; what is your advice? This is a Sharp Roku TV model LC50LB481U. Thanks.

Hello, having no backlight and working audio, I've followed your suggested diagnosis methods closely and through shinning a flashlight on the screen it seemed my tv's led driver needed replacement so I purchased the full kit: “Samsung UN40H5203AFXZA (Version VF11) Repair Parts Kit” for my Samsung model: UN40H5203AF, and installed them exactly as your video suggested, unfortunately, the problem wasn't solved and I'm still able to see onscreen details using a flashlight and there's audio. I've further enquired through email and was told that you don't offer tech support, I would truly appreciate your input on what else should I look into in order to repair this tv, please.

Same. I just can't see how you can release the bottom layer of glass from the glue (maye heat gun, but that would likely damage the top layer) without breaking the glass.

the way you took on the screen looked easy with the suction ya forgot to tell us it might be glued down I lifted it and it stuck...now I have a cracked sreen

Hey Jim. Just a curious question. Nobody is going to do it. But as you might have spares you may wonder also. What would happen to the picture if that white reflective filter with the holes.....was changed for a reflective/tinfoil type or similar reflector .I'm assuming the led.s would need turning down. But what would it do to the picture. Would it just blur the picture with too much light or what. If your bored let me know. If your even more bored, try 1 out. And post a video. Brushed steel, aluminium. There's obviously a reason why they use white. To block reflection all that. But what if. What would it look like. Coulda woulda putta.

I used a hair blow dryer to loosen up the glue and separted it carefuly. Worked great.

Hello, I have replaced my LEDs and they work but it’s like you can see the LEDs there are semibrighter spots where the LEDs are like they are not properly diffusing the light. Is this due to the brand or the LEDs themselves? I never seen this issue before

I'm sure they could manufacture new tvs with slide out led strips if these are a weak link. Who would care if it made the profile a little wider. Amazing how everything today doesn't last 2 minutes especially when it depends on cheap led light strips.

Beware: my screen was glued down in the middle of 3 sides. The bottom had so strong of glue that it separated and ruined the pixels there.

This guide skips a lot of steps and doesn't do a good job at all about warning about potential pit-falls, namely ADHESIVE. It sure would have been nice if you had mentioned something about the possibility of adhesive under the LCD. Now I have a TV with bad backlights AND a cracked LCD panel.

I have a Sharp LC-50LB37IU TV & I do have sound.... the TV went dim at first then totally black in a quick manner...however with a flashlight I can see the picture. I'm guessing its the back lights. Any help will be grateful... I remember when TV's were made in America and lasted forever...I must give thanks to China for another crappy produced product!!! Huge Thumbs up for the video Any coupons for the parts at your site for these LED strips...just asking... I plan on going there anyways...Thanks for the help

Agreed. Our Made in the U.S.A. tv lasted us roughly 15-20 years when I was a kid. My sharp LCD just had the backlight issue also. It's a 5 year old tv that was used moderately. 🤦🏻‍♂️. I'm not gonna bother with trying to fix it because I know it's not worth it. I bought another tv unfortunately and purchased a 5 year extended warranty. I'm so tired of buying these made in China crap products. Good luck with yours.

The 3-9v batteries works gr8 for a 30v LED tester...I will shop @ shopjimmy.com again sux now I will be fixing family members tv's for cheap...or free lol

Why replace all the LED strips? Surely they wouldn't all fail at the same time? If the backlight has failed shouldn't you be looking for a power supply problem or something? EDIT: Just noticed this guy never replies to comments.

Aren't these rated for 100,000 hours??? Piece of junk is all they are. My sharp went "bad" after 5 years of moderate use also. So tired of buying these crappy Chinese manufactured T.V.'s.

Mine went out after a year! Still sitting in my closet waiting to be repaired. But honestly thinking of pitching it. Not worth the hassle really. I've replaced it with a Samsung 50" 4k do really no use for it. Sharp used to make decent televisions back in the day but now they are junk.
