Sharpe is an officer, his heroism allows him to pay at a far higher level than a man from the ranks normally would have. Normally he wouldn't be an officer long, he'd have been bought over or bankrupt himself paying for his position. If she was a gold digger she'd have married Girdwood.

he was not mad, he was just a big fop. His brother the Duke of York ('Freddie') however was sharp as a tack and as Commander in Chief reformed the whole Army to the point where the army became professional later on.

7 years late but you should look up a mod called “l’aigle” and newer one called “between empires”. L’aigle is placed in early 1800’s during the napoleonic wars, Between empires is 1860’s to pre WW1 (between empires lets you research technology and the battles have been improved to allow total war esque control of your units akin to an RTS)

Of course the books aren't burned asap- no. Instead we take them to London so as to to demostrate how the leverage is no more and then they are still not burned asap... sigh- instead carry them around a bit more without need just so that Sharpe still manages to save the day. Damn silly.

True. That said, it's also silly that an entire regiment of soldiers just shows up on the Prince's doorstep, one that nobody thought existed except on paper, and suddenly...there is no paper on them, yet nobody would bat an eye at that. Pretty much every sensible gentlemen would suspect something very fishy and that Lord Fenner would make such a claim that they exist on paper and that said paper no longer exists. Well, why does it not exist? Fenner would then be at the center of accusations that he clearly burned the books on this regiment in order to clear his hands of a scandal. At that point, it would be far more convenient for Fenner to simply give Sharpe the regiment to France to avoid any suspicion. So for him to think that the scandal is completely avoided simply by getting rid of the books and then telling Sharpe to fuck off to Australia is pretty shortsighted on his end.

when they got to the barracks they was riding horses, and yet when they left the barracks they were not riding horses anymore, so what happened to the horses, and after smith`s comment you do have to wonder just how innocent these officers are, and what role did they play at foulness, and just how much money did they trouser for keeping quite etc, and did they ever possibly consider the fact that what they were involved in was not really strictly legal and certainly not morally right, at what stage were there consciences pricked if ever, and as at foulness the sergeants seemed to be having a lovely if evil time with the new recruits, how would it be possible for sharpe to lead men into battle knowing this, and even if lynch is soon no more, was lynch the only bad apple, or should i be worried that perhaps more sergeants will now be also having nasty and fatal accidents, and as i cannot really remember what happened to these recruits in perhaps the next few episodes of sharpe did any of them get promoted or whatever, and that it is usually not always a good thing to be a raw recruit around sharpe if he is about to go into battle, because not everyone survives, and although no doubt sharpe gets covered in even more glory, sometimes you do have to wonder at what cost to his men.

It wasn't a million miles off the way we were treated in the early 2000's. I was given a beret that was way WAY too big, and when I made it known, the SQMS told me to "fuck off you honking little mutant". I bought an officers item on Ebay which had a far nicer lining and fitted much better.

Did British have, well, British accents back then? I have read that the modern British accent was adopted during the Victorian era but not this early. British, at that time, should have sounded more like Americans do today. Perhaps only the higher class, officers and such, should have spoken with the accent.

Realistically, Fenner couldn't have thought it'd be that easy. You clearly have hundreds of soldiers marching your way, and you think burning the books will absolve you of any wrong doing? So, lemme get this straight. You flat out said to multiple of your superiors, including the Prince of Wales, that this regiment only exists on paper. And yet...here they are! So what does said paper say about this so-called non-existent regiment? Oh, the paper no longer exists? That isn't even remotely suspicious... Fenner should've known the second that Sharpe booted Girdwood out of his command, that the jig was up and the cleanest way to avoid a scandal was simply giving command of it to Sharpe and ordering him to fight in France under the command of Wellington.
