Instead of throwing your electric razor away, you might be surprised how easy it is to sharpen the blades so it cuts like new again.

I just followed this. Incredible. Old blades now work better than the new blades I just ordered for my Phillips Norelco 9000. I salute you, Sir.

He's been using that old corded razor for years, but never bothered to take the thrift store price sticker off it. What a true gentleman. Other then that obvious embellishment this was a fine video. Newer electric razors never get a good blade back, they dull almost immediately, and will corrode faster as the coating is scraped away. Nothing like infected razor burn\bumps from a dull electric blade.

What kind of grinding stone? How much does it cost and also for honing

Wash everything first! I regularly blow out the fine particles with compressed air, but I de-grease everything by disassembling the head, washing it once to get the gunk off, then swirling the screens and blades in rubbing alcohol.

I have a Norelco 8240 that I’ve had for many years and sharpen like you demonstrated. I always first degrease the blades and foils by soaking in rubbing alcohol. And I make sure to keep the same blade and foil matched together. I’ve used Norelco since I was 16 years old because the first time I ever shaved my older brother let me use his. I’m now 80. I once tried a non-rotary blade shaver but hated it.

@Caballo de guerra Braun. Don’t remember the model. Years ago.
@joescheller6680 Жыл бұрын
Your razor is same model number as mine it's an xl. Floating heads really like the razor. It's over 30 years old I believe has original battery in it yet. Holds charge for a week. Trier others like Brawn and a Wahl the screens didn't last 3 months.
@baklash1762 Жыл бұрын
@@joescheller6680 Yep, mine still has the original battery also. Just wish I could buy some good replacement blades because sharpening these will eventually wear them out. Also, not sure if the very expensive new models are any good. One thing I know for sure is that when this one finally bites the dust I will buy another Norelco rotary.

I have one of those bald head shavers. Does your technique work for them, or do I do the toothpaste?
@andrewwilks51552 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For I got some dull razor blades.
@dogmaticagnostic77162 жыл бұрын
There is a far better way... first, thoroughly clean your blades (yours were gross) then add some toothpaste to the outside of the razor blades and run for 30 seconds. Thoroughly wash the razor head and voila! Sharp blades.

omg thank you! My Philips 9000 series is working better now than it did when it was new. I even tried it on my body hair trimmer and now that works super well too. Crazy how simple this solution is and how well it works 😍

Yeah well, at 56' I basically gave up on electrics having owned everything out there. Till about a week ago anyway. I destroyed my face with a manual shaving few days premature. I was furious. That night I started my quest for an electric again. No way was I gonna pay $300 again and throw it in the trash. I reluctantly got a $50 Remington f5- 5800 on ebay. Holy shit. Not only is it first razor Not giving me Burns, irritation and Bumps. But its so delicate, yet shaves so close, even after shave hardly stings my face. AND, I can shave at least every Two days whereas I could only do so Once a week for past 40yrs because of my extremely sensitive skin. Don't know how long this will last as I have terrible experience with Foil shavers imparticular. But for now...it's a miracle!!

Awesome! I have done this many times with the same razor you have: hq2, it does work great as the profile is entirely FLAT. The problem is that new blades hq8, hq9, sh30/52 et. al. are being designed with a convex like shaving profile, making it almost impossible to do this very same technique. I watched a guy (Robert Veach?) YT video using plain toothpaste (silica gel) by pouring it onto the top of the blades without them being taken out, after having washed the blades with soap, and then by running the shaving machine for some seconds, blades down, on the palm of his hand to recover the polishing liquid. This seemed working perfectly fine. I do think you can do the same with diamond paste, white paste, polish, compound and EVEN BRASSO! As you are sharpening the blade against the foil it fits perfectly the curve; just be careful to not finish sharpening away the foil as it is very thin.

Where do you get these stones
@joescheller6680 Жыл бұрын
You must not interchange the foils with different blade they wait in together changing them will not be a good match..try to keep them matched while taking out of the head.

Why in the before & after 0:35 - 0:45 do you show the before blades being held one way in the before but hold them the other way in the after? why not show them both the same way? compare apples to apples
