I use a combination of a 1 x 30 belt sander to put the burr on the blade from the back (because it doesn't bevel the cutting edge) and then buffing the back of the blade with a cloth buffing wheel with blue jewelers' rouge. And then I follow up by sharpening with the face down the entire length on the Shapton 15,000-grit stone for finishing the polished edges. You can shave with the blades when I finish and the whole process only takes three to five minutes to complete. Much more efficient that way.

Sharpening РК on a forward surface was conducted by hand, i.e. manually, with the constant small area or dot contact of a processed surface to an abrasive surface оселка or a stone. Because of it, cutting edge can be squeezed out slightly on a support surface. Therefore, the colleague constantly ground in them lengthways РК, in two contacts on a back surface to remove from it traces завальцовки.

The process of going to high grit then lower again, what is this called? Also, why did he only have the highest stone sharpening the inside of the shears?

Michael Seigler I got distracted by a mosquito and missed some of that. However, he was removing a burr on the ride line. Is that what you’re asking about?

have seen him do this he removes minimal metal. But takes a long time. What he really does is wipe out really EXPENSIVE stones. The end result was beautiful. Would I do this commercially Not a chance.. I have to earn a living

I like this - just about every other video shows people putting the inside of the shears flat on a stone & rubbing it - usually one way. It obvious that, that can't work as the shears have a curved surface - normally 800mm radius. You would be sharpening the tip & the start of the shears but not the middle. Finally I get to see someone doing it properly.
@stevepailet8258
@stevepailet8258 6 жыл бұрын
800 mm is absolutely true for shears with a 800 radius but oddly not true for a shear designed with a 600 or 700 or 1000mm radius. Your comment is fine except not true. The curved surface is the set. that is what he is working. This system is fine till you get a shear that the set is screwed up .. Like the cheap chinese and pakistani shears that often have all sort of odd shapes to the internal curve that forms the alignment or set or some call it balance. The radius you are talking about is along the edge of the cutting portion of the shear. Suggest you take some classes if you desire not to be a fool

I don't understand why he goes back and forth in grit. It makes sense to start at 1000grit but then he goes 12000, then 4000, then 12000 again and then 3000 ... I know honing is an art itself but he doesn't explain why he does it this way, AFAIK everything you do in a higher grit is destroyed by a lower grit later so that steps really don't help much. I'd go with the usual 1000 to shave the nicks and the basic 4000/8000 with the curve technique. Then finish with the 12000.

I'm not sure which part of the video you are referring to, but for part of it he was removing the burr before each step down in grit size.

Sharpening vertically doesn't damage the stone ?
@stevepailet8258
@stevepailet8258 6 жыл бұрын
it is a quick way to get down past the damage without spending lots of time working the blade.. But the reality is as one works the inside and outside of the blade you end up removing in a more balanced way metal from both surfaces

You just ground the volume of steel , but unfortunately destroyed the working me ha ism if the scissor. This is horrendous , uneducated worthless waste of time. This is not funny. This is modern day shearbilly work by hand vs a rip off grinder. Results are the same. Removed metal, resulting in a Destroyed scissor.

you missed the entire thing.. He is selling shapton stones not actually a way to turn out shears. I did a pair that had been run thru the washer machine. Trust me he would still be working on them and grinding with his extremely flat diamond hone and replacing stones a lot. it is MARKETING not sharpening. This system sold a lot. but many went back to using other means because they need to earn a living+
