Anthony, thanks so much for doing this! I know it’s weird doing a preview video on something like this, it really means a lot! 🙏🏽 For anyone reading, just a heads up that the basic figure offering has what’s included in this video. Let’s go Rivals!! Can’t wait to see your project move forward in the future. More indy companies, yes!!

Same.💀 The disc hinge neck, the reverse abcrunch torso, the long lower legs, the poor engineering on the feet and no vertical hinges for the gun holding hands.😬 There’s also quite the thigh gap on the them. And gun holding hands for swords. I mean I ain’t trying to be rude here but I think we all know these aren’t going to be the best figures out there for $31. I honestly don’t see these selling at all. Respect the effort the dude put into this but the prototypes Anthony ma de a year or 2 ago looks a million times better than these and are so much more creative too.

Okay, so here's what I think could be improved, maybe Shartimus can change these things. -Neck joint, of course, opening the head socket a bit to allow more range. Making the neck thinner wouldn't really solve this. -Butterfly joints are way too big, and have little range. Testing out a better position for the inner pegs to allow more range would be the best path forward, as to not mess up the sculpt. -However, there is a huge gap in it, almost as if the shoulder was on a ballpeg inside the butterfly joint, and if that's true then there should be a cap. That doesn't look good or need to be there. I do think the butterfly shoulders overall need to be resculpted. -Wrists need up and down hinges for the gun and weapon. That is 100% needed change. -The torso is very gappy, and the range doesn't really justify it. Either make a cap to hide it, or better yet, resculpt the torso joint. Fill it out so the hole isn't so big. -The crotch diaper needs to be made of soft plastic to allow the torso joint to move more, plus the hips to bend forward more without going out. -The knee joints are too high. Proportioning is off. Lower the joint maybe half a centimeter. And maybe open the hinges more to allow for full bend. -The pant sculpt around the ankles is way too limiting. Open it up more to allow for more ankle pivot and bend, and maybe drop the ballhinge a few milimeters to allow for even more motion. -The toe joint needs to be rounded out, instead of being a straight cut. As is it will not even work because of the part that comes out of the flat part. Hopefully Shartimus can fix these things! I know prototypes are expensive and changing these things WILL cost, but the figure will be so much better with these changes, so I hope he can consider them. I am a fan of his and I want this to succeed.
@chewymew
@chewymew 9 ай бұрын
I agree with pretty everything you said. Shart did say he's going to give the gripping hands vertical hinges, and he said the toe will be more rounded on the bottom. But he hasn't addressed any of the other issues. All he said was (paraphrasing) "The issues with the articulation will be improved on the final product." But I doubt he's going to sculpt new shoulders, upper torso, pant cuffs, butterfly joints. I don't think Russ really knows too well about what he's doing with these figures. I think he went into this not fully understanding why articulation works or doesn't work. Like he's convinced double ball peg necks don't work

It’s a PROTOTYPE. I feel like you misunderstood why Anthony said he wasn’t gonna review review it. It’s a rough draft and nothing is final. Even that big space at the bottom of the butterfly joint. A lot of adjustments can be made still or completely changed. The toe joint was messed up but Sharts comment was to clean it up and I think that’s what he meant. It would’ve been pointless to destroy a work in progress. He made that much clear. The final draft is what you destroy. I mean come on, come on.

Things to improve: double ball peg in the neck, better shoulders joint and bigger proportion to avoid weird biceps swivel joint, better butterfly joint range, double ball peg upper torso for a better range articulacion, low torso proportions hips and better cake, leg joint for better front range, better toe joint clear shape, extra hands with vertical swivel. A list of thing I've learned watching this channel, thank you Anthony!

I suspect most of theese things won't be alterable at this point, he (Shartamus) seems dead set on neck hinge and reverse abcrunch setup from his reviews. The toes and hands are smaller adjustments that he seems to know about and has stated to be working on so that is likely to be improved. The legjoint is 50/50 and is the biggest eyesore to me, the body looks like it has birthing hips and has bad range both ways

I know this is a prototype but so far it feels very Marvel Legends-y. The shoulder should be able to move the arms towards the chest a lot more than it does here, the toe hinge has a bad look (I'm sure they can figure it out) And I don't really like the neck articulation. The lower abdomen hinge looks alright but but not sure, maybe a ball peg system would work better. The upper body being able to move around like on a ball joint is really good tho, reminds me of model kits and some of the Bandai figures But things like the large diaper piece and the sculpted butt cheeks hinder the leg range and obviously prevent it from moving the legs backwards Overall I think it's okay based on what you were able to show but it just feels like it's emulating hasbro and McFarlane and other huge companies at the moment but hopefully they can do better and take notes from Jada's street fighter line or even some of the better SH Figuarts or Amazing Yamaguchi figures.
@suhtangwong

They can only do so much without over spending for those extra things. I'm sure he wanted gi joe's neck articulation but that would cost a lot more and change the whole mechanism for the upper body. Overall looks like a decent prototype! Sculpt looks awesome to me (can’t wait for the paint), accessories look sufficient (fists, weapons, hands for weapons, probably alternate alien head, alternate angry head), articulation for a prototype looks good (most of it will be tightened up and improved in the final product I’m sure); what gripes I personally had with the articulation, like the wrist peg articulation for the weapon hands and the pointy balls of the feet for when the toe joint is bent, we’re mostly addressed by the comments from Shartimus explained by Anthony. Great job, Shart, and thanks Anthony for doing the review!

It's kind of a tough deal to "review" a figure being made by a fellow collector because you want to offer criticism, but at the same time, someone who has never made a figure can't be held to the same standard as a company who has been making figures for decades. That said, it's an amazing figure for a first time prototype. Couple of things I'd like to see is a double ball neck rather than a disk and ball just because it offers much more range and expression. I also think the crotch piece should be carved out a little more so the leg can kick out straight forward. Otherwise, I really like it. These figures definitely fill a niche in that no other company really makes figures of regular people. I'm imagining a photo where three or four of these dudes come to the aid of Spiderman to help beat the crap out of Doc Ock. Best of luck, Shart! Looks really good!

Cant judge fully by the prototype but there are definitely some choices on this that im not a fan of. The ball hinge neck is outdated and not as functional as a double ball peg. The pizza oven diaphragm joint is bizzare. The bicep cut seems a little weird but not bad. That forward hip range is eyebrow raising for sure. Not entirely sold on the upside-down abe crunch as a joint. And toe hinges are almost always useless imo. And im not sure the butterfly joints are doing enough to justify their existence. ALL THAT SAID... i do like the idea of generic thugs for my heros to beat up so i might jump on board regardless.
@chewymew
@chewymew 9 ай бұрын
I think the biggest issue is *who* is making this. Based on what Shartimus has said in his reviews, he makes it pretty obvious (unintentionally) that he doesn't really know how articulation works. He's said countless times that dumbell necks don't work. He said diaphragm + reverse ab crunch is better than ab crunch + waist swivel. I think Shartimus went into this project wanting articulation he's been demanding from Hasbro, but he didn't know how to make it function properly.
@theraven268
@theraven268 9 ай бұрын
I always see people say that toe-hinges are useless, i disagree. For kneeling, crawling or if using a flight stand they are very useful. Now whether they are worth the investment needed is a different issue. Now i state this assuming the toe-hinges are rounded such that they look good when moved and in neutral, so not just square cut like McFarlane usually does it.
@chewymew
@chewymew 9 ай бұрын
@@theraven268 I think toe joints are great when they function properly. Most ToyBiz Spideys have good and useful toe joints. When Hasbro uses toe joints (Renew Your Vows), the badly integrated dumbell neck, the weird ab crunch + diaphragm, combined with lackluster hip movement just makes the toe joints useless. Unfortunately this figure seems to have most of these problems, so I think it's going to be wasted. The Retro Armored Daredevil figure was a perfect candidate for toe articulation.
@andrewtaylor940
@andrewtaylor940 9 ай бұрын
Ball/disk hinge neck vs double ball barbell peg is more of a design preference. With the Disk hinge/ball you can typically get a better ability to look up or down. But you lose some other articulation such as head tilt. It's more a question of preference and how you need the figure to move. For a flying character the disk hinge might be the way to go. For a Military Character that needs to aim a rifle and look down the sights, double ball is preferred.

I wish Shartimus the best of luck with this. This is clearly a dream project for him. I do have some concerns, although none of them are about the figure itself. Which looks to be an excellent sculpt, with good articulation points. My concerns are more business side. Yes we have seen some succesful Kickstarter figure projects that leapfrogged into major growing toy lines. Most obviously Mythic Legions and Valaverses Action Force. But those came from people who had spent decades in the toy production and manufacturing industry. The Four Horsemen and Bobby Vala. They knew every step of the process, all the costs and logistics involved. Who to talk to, how to get the best deals, what to expect in terms of problems etc. They had shepherded lines to market before. Their lines weren’t so much dream projects as they were the next step in long careers that had built up to that point. But most Kickstarter projects aren’t that. These recent ones by The Fwoosh and Shartimus look good. They are clearly dream projects, but I’ve learned to be hesitant regarding Kickstarter dream projects from people that have not experienced the full scope of the business they are seeking to enter. If for no other reason that they always, always underestimate the ultimate costs that it will actually take to fulfill. The more complex the product, the greater this miscalculation. With that said I may take a gamble on one or two of Shartimus’s Street Humans. Just because they look like plane everyday dudes on the street. Which is useful in a collection. The hideous bat and cat heads not so much.

Seeing stuff here that is on par with or even better than a major toymaker (Hasbro) is definitely promising. @a7xtherevrend Yeah, to me, this body looks like a cheap knock-off of that tank top Hugh Jackman figure. Nothing about this line or articulation sticks out, it's just generic guy #2. And the cool alien parts (the whole plot line behind these characters) unlocks as a tier 3 stretch goal. Even the other main character is a stretch goal. Considering how tiny Shartimus' active fanbase is, it's unlikely the second character is even going to be released. Also, the alien parts are a separate accessory pack for $18.

@a7xtherevrend I feel like Russ' approach to this line is that of a man child who is in the position of making an action figure line. He wants all the articulation he's been asking Hasbro to do, except I guess he didn't do any research or inspection of other figures to see how articulation should work. Then - just like a little a kid - he sees articulation engineered incorrectly (Hasbro double ball pegs and diaphrams) and say they don't work. Then he tells this to his audience, and they're convinced it doesn't work. So now we have other uninformed people going around saying that hinges are better than ball pegs, all because one guy (Russ) couldn't be bothered to do research

This is simultaneously lacking and overdesigned; hinged neck equals no tilting, and if this is supposed to be an average grunt, what use is a butterfly joint? The head is the most expressive part of a figure, and if you want an army of grunts, you want to be able to pose them in a way that they get knocked around by some other figure with the most creatively dynamic poses possible, to "sell" the hits they're taking from your hero figure. Really gonna choose butterfly joints over, say, the myriad of possibilities that mooks can be posed when they're smacked in the head? I could've understood if this was like Mafex's excellent butterfly joints (because then the figure could use even more exaggerated poses for both taking hits and landing them), but this one just looks like a waste of money compared to investing in the neck. Then there's that's ab crunch that's super noticeable because of the vertical lines on the tanktop. Nice sculpt though.
@andrewtaylor940
@andrewtaylor940 9 ай бұрын
They are average Grunts to us. Shartimus seems to be giving them some odd Alien shapeshifter backstory and unappealing animal heads. Which seems an odd choice as I get the impression most collectors would really like a nice line of some standard "street humans". Some assorted city people. Miscellaneous thugs, cops, firefighters, and victims... I mean normal civilians, to flesh out our displays and collections.

But why would you design an ab crunch in the year of our lord 2023 instead of double ball', like mcfarlane and literally every manufacturer outside hasbro is doing ? This is not the 90s, with ab crunches and swivels, only hasbro has 30 year old designs. I am not a fan of thigh cuts since they always, 100% of the time look like shit. Im a fan of Mafex style drop down legs and swivels. If you really need the extra range, you have it. If the regular range is enough, you have it as well and you also have a perfect aesthetic for the figure and the crotch piece hides the ugly joints and innards of the legs. I've never agreed to Anthony's stance on drop down hips and speedo wearing crotches. It looks like shit, you dont design the articulation at the expense of the way the figure looks. Soft plastic crotch pieces like mcfarlane and mafex have is the correct way, that bend out of the way if you really, absolutely need that extreme posing, but most of the time i'd say you dont, so you'll have a better looking figure because of it

Drop down hinges are not needed at all if you design the joint correctly. Besides, they're fragile and always move around as you pose the figure. They're usually an unjustified mess.
@qqqqqq4352
@qqqqqq4352 9 ай бұрын
@@SP8inc There's no design around exposed hinges. If you want to cover the joints, you need a trunk piece. No way around that. Drop down legs are so you can get around the trunk piece and get additional range. Otherwise you dont have to use them. Drop down legs dont have downsides unless the company messes up. I know Anthony likes to repeat what you said, but thats not true. I dont want my figures like Hasbro is doing them, with exposed plastic and hinges. Or how the Jada Fei Long has them, visually. I think the trunks at the crotch as a separate piece in order to hide the ugly joints there is mandatory. And drop down is to get around that if you want the maximum range
