Full interview & performance by JD near peak of his career. "Prisoners" was about POW's in Vietnam. Look for the World Trade Center under construction in the "new" Frosted Mini Wheats ad (which weren't so mini in those days).

My favorite song in 1972 in 2nd grade was his song Rocky Mountain High. I really loved Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Elton John when it came out too even though at the time I didn`t grasp the full weight of the deep lyrics. I felt them somehow anyway and still love that song. There was so much great variety and sheer talent in music back then before it was dumbed down. Every night I sat alone in the front room with the light off with indirect light from another room coming in listening to a little clock radio in a rocking chair. Later I started sitting in my mom`s car each night listening to music. I got a decent little battery powered radio for Christmas one year and I remember hearing Stevie Nicks for the first time in the 70s outside under the bright stars on a late summer night and it felt magical like it was coming from the whole Universe. Music was so important to everyone back then and it remained that way for me through the 80s but in the 90s the record companies started ruining it and I remember getting angry about what was happening and Bill Clinton was 100% responsible because he destroyed real radio...local radio...independent radio. The last full album that truly impressed me was The Better Life by 3 Doors Down in 2000 but by that time radio had become too cringe to continue listening to. FBC! And FJB!

My grandson who turned 36 in September loved John “Member” we bought him a little tape player when he was a toddler and a tape with Sunshine On My Shoulder on it, he often fell asleep listening to that tape. Boy, this takes me back. In July of 1971 my husband was discharged from the navy after four years in and out of Vietnam on a supply ship. He was so lucky to have been at sea and not fighting in the jungle. We finally did bring our boys (and girls!) home, but it had been a brutal slog for everyone. We became John Denver fans soon after he started his solo recording, and stayed fans until his tragic death. He wrote and sang for all of us. RIP, friend John. 🙏🏼❤️

My mother Loved John Denver. She was old enough to be his mother . She thought he was adorable and left too young . When she passed away we were on the way to the Cemetery and decided to listen to the Radio and out came County Roads take me home ❤ not a dry eye in the car . No doubt. He loved his fans and they him 😁 . We all took it as we don't know what's next but if John and Mom are there it's probably far out and pleasant.

I am 61 and live in Canada. I remember listening to John Denver, in my High School years. I can still picture sitting in the family room, right by the floor model HiFi stereo system, with John Denver's 8Track tape playing. I can still see that. Looking up into the ceiling, picturing the windy Kansas wheat fields. Oh, how the world lost a great talent.

I always did like John Denver to me. He was a wonderful guitar player. They said he was also a fairly nice person. What a shame to lose such a talented person. I sure miss him, and I always say this he was well loved by many and missed by all. May he rest in peace.🥲🥲🎸😎💖

I saw John in KCMO around 1984. 2.5 hour concert on a rotating stage in the middle of the arena so everyone got a good view of the band. Quite the entertainer and talent.

I made a point to see him every chance I got. I think I went to his concerts about a dozen times. One time I remember he broke a guitar string and he was just so funny when it happened. My favorite memory was one time between songs it for quiet for a second and a friend of mine and I shouted "we love you John!" And he replied "I love you too!" We were thrilled. Another time a different friend of mine and I were walking away from the venue and we saw a limo flying by. We ran as fast as we could and waved and JD clearly waved out the window back at us. I generally am not a star struck person except when it came to John Denver.

@@cathyizzo7886 Neato! Saw him three times: Ravinia and Arie Crown in Chicago area and West Lafayette at Purdue. Was in Aspen one spring in late 70s during celebrity pro-am race and he skied up right behind me!

Was lucky enough to be at that concert at Blossom Music Center. John is correct in saying that pretty much everyone was hoping he'd sing Saturday Night in Toledo Ohio. We were so excited when he did. It was a really fun night and great concert.

My first concert was John Denver. My first vinyl albums were John Denver’s ‘Poems, Prayers and Promises’ and the Jackson 5,s ‘Skywriter’. I still love the music from the 70’s and 80’s.

Genius. JD was so unique. An amazing songwriter with a beautiful voice. I've not heard this song before. Geniuses often have really difficult times with being married and walking the world between people and the spiritual realm. We people on earth are spiritual beings having a human experience. RIP John. You are far from being forgotten.

Me too, huge John Denver fan. I fell in love with his music on old 8 track tapes, I was around 8 years old. 53 now. This was such a wonderful performance. I was lucky enough to see him once near the end there at Chastain Park. I was walking down by the stage and he saw me, he smiled and waved. One of the best moments of my life for sure :)

I saw him that night in Chastain!! Omg! Fell in love with him at age 10 in 1974 and my heart still aches that he's gone. I joke with everyone that when I get to heaven, I want to hug him before my mom who I lost in 1992 at age 47. God Bless John Denver! He's been one of the highlights of my entire life!
