They tried in season 2's "Nebraska". Didn't pan out. Also, someone else must have tried going to the Winchester and waiting for the whole mess to blow over during those flashbacks while Rick was in a coma and Shane was looking after Lori and Carl.

Part of what makes me love this movie, you think it's just going to go relatively smoothly to stick with the comedy. But the plan keeps going wrong until they do get to the pub and it's nothing like the safe happy place they expected it to be, and then when they start to get comfortable, things REALLY go bad all at once, and instead of working together in their direst moment, start turning on each other. It's probably the realest situation if there is no dictator leader of a group of people, there is always going to be fighting and debating over petty things, and it showed Shaun was slowly becoming a strong group leader, but just a little too late when he has to make a big personal decision and the group rapidly looses confidence in him and panic.

Funnily enough, this plan would've worked had Shaun's mom not fallen behind and got bitten (although they don't learn that right away). After that happened, things began to fall apart.

Him imagining everyone smiling and laughing, only for his final plan to end up going disastrously wrong with everyone constantly squabbling has to be the most realistic depiction of how you picture an outing with friends vs how the outing actually ends up going in real life lol

Theres already a million brilliant things that people have pointed out about this scene but one of my favorite parts is how Phil spins around at 00:12 00:49 and 1:19 in the video! Lmfao its just so perfect because its exactly the way that a person like Sean who hasn't even grasped the severity of the situation would imagine the plan going. He's just like "everything will go off simple and without a hitch." And thinking back, I love how Edgar Winter specifically took the time to have a scene regarding EVERY SINGLE part of his plan going horribly wrong. Getting the keys fucks up because Sean's roommate is a zombie in the shower, getting the car goes to hell because they are completely surrounded, Phil is still very much alive and doesn't agree with the plan, they get trapped and surrounded in Liz's place, the road to the Winchester is completely fucked and Sean's mom gets bitten, and then to top it all off, The Winchester is completely surrounded and shit sure as hell doesn't "just blow over!" Fantastic movie! Best combination of Comedy and Horror that exists currently in my opinion. Zombieland tried to make a similar style of movie to this but its nothing compared to this film.

Also, in the final scenario, where he, Ed, Liz, and Barbara are at the Winchester, John and Bernie are happily watching the group having a pint. This goes balls up, as they become zombies and try to kill them.

My 12 year old and his best friend watched this for the first time recently. They could not stop laughing, learnt all the quotables and have been repeating them on a regular basis ever since. I never thought I could get fatigued by this film but my patience is wearing very very thin.

That's the only thing that bugs me about this movie. Her apartment was perfect for surviving the zombie apocalypse. They could have even raided the kitchens of the other uninhabited apartments for supplies and holed up long term.
