Another KZfaq ( can't remember who) stores used blades in a jar until they go to the doctors and then dispose of them in the sharps bin. Seems the safest option

In the olden days there was a slot in the back of the medicine cabinet for used blades that went directly into the wall. Not too sure how safe that was, especially if someone decided to remodel the bathroom.

I been using mine for about a year, and I gave one to my boyfriend this christmas, he was a little bit afraid of cutting his face at first but now he is loving it, he says it´s a loooot better than a disposable razor, even the expensive ones.

I once owned a Rolls Razor. It had a stone on the inside of the case, which you could sharpen the blade with when you put it away. It lasted for years and it had the advantage of not needing a new blade. It's a shame they don't still make them.

After reading several comments, under no circumstance should used blades be composted, recycled or thrown in the waste. The responsible method is using a sharps container, which can be purchased at a local grocer or pharmacy. Each container comes with manufacturers return instructions for proper and safe disposal.

What i like about them is theyre so easy to clean and you dont have to leave it with lots of tiny hair bits between the blades like with cartridge razors

The blades _absolutely should not_ be put in recycling unless you are completely certain it is okay to do so in your area. Every jurisdiction I know about will at the very least say that they should be put in regular trash so it is sent to a landfill. In some jurisdictions, it is even _illegal_ to put them in recycling because of the risk to the workers sorting the material at the recycling facility. (Just think about the things that could happen to them if they got cut. All sorts of pathogens could be exposed to their bloodstream. Worst case scenario they could die (I wish that was hyperbole). They're made of recyclable material, yes, but they cannot be recycled. (That said, the waste compared to any disposable cartridge is absolutely minuscule.)

Hi if you look on the back of the plastic blade holder there is a slot to slide the old blades in.

A nice razor which is adjustable is the Murkur Progress 510, it has a long handle and I shave two passes on my face( I am a man) . You can change the setting eg: from 3 to 2 to clean up the missed hairs and prevent cuts and razor burn. A little baby oil can be used as a preshave. Bodyshop shaving soap is perfect and lathers very easily. Hope it helps.

To safely store used blades I use a 150 ml beverage can. No way someone can be hurt once I need to throw it away. And it will nicely fit into the recycling process.

You might want to invest in a 'Metal Razor Blade Bank' to safely dispose of used razor blades, though a better option might be the FantaSea FSC555 'Used Sharps Container', which can also be used for razor blades.

Safety Razors are a better than some cartridge razors. I haven't used a safety razor in years but they're good now I use Schick Hydro 5 and it's very good.

im seeing the sharps concern here alot, my razor pack container has a slot on it's flipside especially for rendering them harmless before the pack is used up and to disposed of in. maybe this is not universal to all brands' double edged razor packs but in case ppl are like me and are missing its exisence for ages (its uber inconspicuous), i thought id share...

Something to note for all the ladies that might be interested in getting a safety razor: Pretty much all of the safety razors specifically marketed to women are rebranded private label manufactured razors, so chances are you can find the exact same razor for a lot cheaper if you're okay with it not having pastel coloured paint on it. (Look at Weishi, Baili, DS Cosmetics etc.) The Merkur 23C used in this vid is just a plain jane honest product, though. Most razors are also cast from Zamak (zinc-copper alloy) that has been chrome plated. It's a decent material and will last long if you look after it, but it can fracture or chip if dropped or knocked, since cast metals are brittle like glass. The most common breakage you'll see is the top cap's threaded post shearing clean off/having it stay behind in the handle's threads after being dropped from standing height or mishandled during shipping. Due to being cast, they can't be repaired in any way. You could replate a razor after having lost its chrome, though. In my opinion, the most underrated (and mostly unknown to women wanting to get into using a safety razor) product range out there would be Razorock's line of 100% stainless steel safety razors. (Sold on their ItalianBarber website) They cost only slightly more (around $60 to $70) than most of the razors made of Zamak and they have none of their weaknesses. Definitely the best value for money in the wet shaving market. If you already have a razor, don't sweat it, but if you're still looking to buy one, be sure to check them out. You'd like their "super knurl" handle. Also, one piece of advice: Wet shave. Canned foam is "dry" and filled with air that makes the experience uneven and its application doesn't prep your hair. Get some sort of brush and a shaving soap that actually lathers well. If you want vegan, PAA's CK6 formula is explosive and synthetic/horse hair brushes don't involve utilizing something from dead animals.

something to look forward to in old age is not having to shave. 😀 occasionally, i'll find a few hairs on my leg, but nothing that can't be plucked out.

Been shaving with a De razor for years i use a few short chubby razors the scotch and stow and samurai and my blade of choice my vincent 45mm give my face such a smooth shave and its better for the face .

I have used a razor similar to yours but I found that it did not work as well for me. The blades needed changing more often than I thought it would. One thing I may try in the future is the single blade!! Thank you for the video

In case you are not aware there is a HUGE wet shaving( meaning to use Traditional and/or Vintage shaving tools, techniques and methods ) represented on KZfaq and you might benefit by watching some of the videos. This said, I'd like to offer you a suggestion. DE shaving is great without a doubt and you did well pointing this out. However, I think you might enjoy enlarging your experience. I suggest checking out Ebay and researching Schick Injector Razors. They are a Single Edge safety razor. Specifically, look for a "G-Type Bakelite Schick Injector" model. They are easily found and very inexpensive but the shave you receive from them is incredible. The reason I am suggesting a "Injector Blade" model is based on your experience of using a DE blade for several months. A SE blade is thicker and more rigid than a DE blade. And if a DE can last months then theoretically a SE blade might last a year or more. Injector blades come in a 7 blade dispenser. You should watch how the dispensing device works to understand better. Anyway, I enjoyed learning about your experience and opinions on the matter and hope this helps you expand a bit. ;)

You can use a piece of leather & make a strop to clean & keep the blades sharp, just like the Old-Time-Barbers used to do...

Does shaving a lot causes the skin being harsh or simply not as smooth as usual? Because I never shaved and thinking of switching from waxing to shaving just for the sake of zero-waste lifestyle.

Anyone from New Zealand coming across this video... doesn't matter what brand of razor blade you use, CaliWoods will take any razor blades under their Razor Blade Returns Program! They also sell decent traditional razors of their own, along with other nice sustainable products (kitchen/bathroom/laundry products, i.e. stainless steel pegs, toothpaste tablets, bamboo & sisal fibre dish brushes, etc.) all without plastic in the products and packaging.

If you've got any blacksmiths in your area I suggest sending them a message asking if they want a container of used razor blades (I've seen a lovely Damascus knife made from scalpel blades that I would love to recreate using razor blades)

from England....I'm a wet shaving double edge razor man lol tip....get yourself some ARKO shave soap made in Turkey (best shaving stuff) ,really cheap but best shaving soap you can buy also makes a brilliant washing soap ,shampoo..ebay its about 50p a puck and will last 6 months or a box of 12 for about £10 last a life time lol also a fantastic blade you can buy cheap is SHARK CHROME...........really sharp and smooth shave.......DE razors are better than cartridge razors. hope it helps.

I find myself having to change the blade rather quickly, and I'm not sure why. I've been using a safety razor for about 3 or 4 months now and I still don't know if I like it. Try this The Viking Emperor series( Fat chrome), (Fat Angustus) version good one! After trying this safety razor for 7 years, The viking emperor meji its the lastest version 2020 but its shorter handle so I don't recommended that. Just go for Viking Emperor Fat Chrome or Fat Angustus version etc. With, shaving soap/cream(Refillable) preshave(Refillable) and aftershave with this razor you prob last long time 6 months- 1 year. Ofc razor last lifetime etc

I am from germany and want to switch to the safety razor in love to the enviroment. But I am admittedly scared to use it 'down there' like in between the labias and the edges because the hair there annoys me the most and i really dont wanna cut myself there since I am very very sensitive to pain ;_;
