I'm still watching y'all chat in the car, but just wanted to share that Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop has a famous theory about what she calls "windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors" and she talks about how important it is for children to read diverse books! She says that children need to be able to read about different cultures and identities (windows), see themselves in what they read (mirrors), and be able to step into new worlds and new experiences through books (sliding glass doors). It's all important to read, and it benefits everyone to read diversely! I'm excited to get recommendations about lesser known Black authors from you this year!
