Whatever your love ones name is always take the time to say I love you because one day you may not have the opportunity to tell them you love them anymore. The Most important words ever written is I love you and we do not say them enough

I didn't know about this version. Decca Records in England decided not to release Ray Peterson's 1960 recording on the grounds that it was "too tasteless and vulgar" and destroyed about twenty-five thousand copies that had already been pressed. A cover version by Ricky Valance, was No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks.

Back in the '70s they actually came out with a couple of albums of "tear jerker" songs including this one, "Teen Angel", "Last Kiss" and others. Two others that came out later were "Honey" and "Patches". Back then the singers could convey the emotion of their songs. COuld you react to Vicki Carr's performance of her song "With Pen In Hand". Every time she sang the song she actually started crying. I saw her in concert twice and she cried both times.

If you would like to hear the other half of this song The rebuttal look up a country singer named Skeeter Davis and her song tell Tommy I miss him. I was about five or six years old when I first heard this song my mom who is no longer with us used to play it all the time it was one of her favorite songs when I was little. The song still brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it because it reminds me of those tender times when I was a child and I listen to it with my mother.

Elvis did a cover of Old Shep, he was not the original artist of this song but it was a well delivered cover. Oh but the lyrics! About losing your beloved dog! What could be sadder? Especially since story goes that the dog saved the boy's life when they were young. Only he had to shoot him but he couldn't! This was a story song written by Red Foley and Willis Arthur back during the Depression era. Foley being the original performer and recording of this song, which was based on Red's true life experience. Thank you Shawn and Mel for your approval!

Yes, "Tell Laura I Love Her" is based on a true story: the song is about a young man named Tommy who enters a stock car race to win money to buy his girlfriend Laura a wedding ring. Tommy is the youngest and least experienced driver, but he joins the race anyway and ends up dying in a fiery crash. His last words are "Tell Laura I love her... My love for her will never die".

This song was one of many from the era that became known as "Dead Teenager" songs. The most famous of these is probably "Last Kiss" by J. Frank Wilson and after that is "Patches" by Dickie Lee. But there were dozens of these all over the radio in the early 60's. Some of them were not bad songs but they are mostly regarded as jokes now.

Another song that reminded me of that genre and came out later was Indiana Wants Me, by R Dean Taylor. He was Canadian and I believe the only white guy (or one of the very few) signed to Motown

Who regards these songs as jokes? They poured out their emotion into these songs. A story of serious love. Not today's crappy songs. Phony artists with mediocre or bad voices to have to rely on artificial electronic voice enhancements, twerking so-called dance moves. All flash no substance. No real talent. Fake it to make it. Bitter, angry, violent, dark, no happiness, no fun, cursing, disrespectful to women, hateful songs by self-absorbed self-important hedonistic entitled people. Lighten up, don't be so serious, enjoy the beauty, the love, the differences, the fun, of the world and life.

@@truthguide1742 I didn’t say I thought they were jokes, don’t shoot the messenger, that’s just the overall perception, unfortunately. Some of them are actually pretty good. I actually agree with most of what you say here.

@@jethro1963 Indiana Wants Me came out after this era/fad had passed (1970 or so). Taylor recorded for “Rare Earth Records” (Division of Motown) whose roster included the group “Rare Earth” who were also white. My favorite artist from this time was “Stoney & Meatloaf”, yes, that Meatloaf and I think this album may have been his first.
