I have only hit a bucket of balls n 50 yrd pitch shots in my backyard for a few days trying to change my target from the ball to the true target as you teach. Today I played 18 from the blue (next to tips) because the guys I played with were playing from there. I figured it would be a good test to see where I would be positioned at compared to the white tees I normally played... well at 59 I was keeping up with the 30 yr olds...I was at least a full club length longer. 15 yards further with 7 iron...etc... was a very positive round! I had my few shots where I reverted back to ball target but after 20 yrs of muscle memory n habit that is to be expected. I look forward to what I can do in the future n as soon as the economy improves I will be purchasing your monthly program! Ty so much for showing us the way, you make it very easy to understand.... light bulb instead of mic drop! Lol

The snap is happening well past the ball. Two very important other things happen well past the ball. The trail wrist passes the trail elbow and the clubhead follows. The closer that snap happens past the ball clubhead speed increases and the face angle closes resulting in a pull. When I slightly weaken my grip my shots have that 5 yard draw very powerful and repeatable. My shots are higher and carry much further. I have always tried to square the clubface with a strong grip and body rotation. I have been experimenting with a less strong grip and a sooner release. I always have that aerial image of a boat pulling a water skier. When the boat turns and is going in the opposite direction of the skier that is maximum speed. The closer maximum speed happens just past the ball the more powerful the shot. It feels like the lead hand pulls and the trail hand pushes but this happens just after impact as opposed to at the target. I'm not saying one of these is better than the other but one is definitely more powerful. Do you have any thoughts on these methods? Thanks Shawn

Stronger lofts and modern heads help with distance but in my experience more traditional irons are more accurate and provide more spin. My P790 7 iron easily goes 175/180. My players cavity blade is 160/165. 4 degrees less loft. The more modern technology does allow for higher launch and lower spin. Drivers and woods technology allows for more distance as well. I find I am more accurate with golf clubs from the 80s and 90s. My titleist 905s and 905r are still very effective and more accurate than today's drivers. Shawn's instructions are very effective for feel players. I have his cd's that I bought in the 90s.

@@golflessons I could give you a sarcastic answer......! As you say in your video, there are two places you can put the snap in. By putting it in early, I strangely find that I get a better follow through and seem to get through the ball well. I also do with your method. I think the key to both is that it takes focus off the ball as the target.

@@edmoreno6926 no go look at his videos from 7 years ago. He's in way better shape, stronger, faster. @edmoreno6926
@edmoreno6926 Жыл бұрын
@@kourt2469 I disagree. Stronger loft and center of gravity have enhanced launch/ angle of decent. Shawn has above average swing speed for his age and probably in to top 2 percent of golfers. Which means he probably shoots is the 70s. His teaching techniques are some of the best out there. He may have retained speed or even got some back from staying/being fit. The best players are longer because of equipment and the golf ball. Shawn and the rest of us benefit from the same especially low hdp players. Shawn's spin with his irons are more than likely considerably lower than 10 or 15 years ago. I have followed Shawn for years and also purchased his DVDs on the swing back in the 1990s. The best fitters will tell you that angle of decent is another way to hold greens. Spin is a way to hold greens and shape shots. There is a reason that players like tiger play a the most spinning ball they can. One of the things that I work on is the tendency to overdraw the ball. Shawn appears to do the same at least this is what I see when he demonstrates on the simulator. I play with men in their 60s and 70s and they can get the ball out there 250 to 270 cary. Because of technique. They are golfers who started playing as kids. Most late comers to the game at the same age barely get it out to 200 yards. Many of them in better shape than the old timers playing since adolescence or younger. I am a fitness fanatic. So I prescribe that it will definitely make any person a better golfer but does not replace technique and sequencing.
@kourt2469
@kourt2469 Жыл бұрын
@@edmoreno6926 you missed the entire point 🤣. Shawn's technique hasn't changed in 7 years, but his body has drastically changed. It's obvious if you go look at an older video. He's also specifically working on increasing his speed which he talks about frequently. Has nothing to do with "technology". Cg in an iron isn't giving you extra distance. High cor faces can increase ball speed but he isn't playing a high cor iron
