There is a reason why internal temps are taken during most of the evolution of buds. It's because they're driving you to hypothermia on purpose - they WILL get you there one way or another. In that respect, no different than getting kicked in the nuts. Most of them will be able to handle the initial cold - but are you going sit in that cold shower until you're about to die? If not- then you're wasting your time. Yeah, you'll be ready for the "shock" of the cold - but is that what you think the purpose of those evolutions are? You're not just cold in the surf, you're cold ALWAYS even out of the water.

It's not an issue to train, but thinking that you can actually prepare is a bad mindset. Being in decent physical shape and health is the only thing that you can do, but if you are in bad health and shape you wont even be allowed to attempt SEAL training. If you are in decent shape, there is nothing more you can do. I didn't attend BUDS, but I did go through Raider individual training course. I spent a long time physically preparing for it and I had perfect PT scores without effort, I felt unprepared 36 hours in.

@@aauwhatitdo1582 Those kinds of tests are not the kind you can prepare for. But you can prepare for a knife attack by training knife defense. You can prepare for a shooting by conceal and carrying and practicing your draw regularly. Not to mention it takes quite a long ass time to get in good physical shape, it's a constant demand not a one year thing. If you are telling me that all of these wouldn't even give me confidence and comfort in my movements then you're mistaken.

I see the point, but those 2 things are are apples and oranges. Granted, taking cold showers isn't going to do it but those 👆there are Horrible references, so what does that mean, don't endurance train, weight train or perform pool or open water swims to "get used to it?" He probably should have made more of an effort to think before he spoke. You should absolutely cold water train to prepare psychologically for the AMOUNT of time your going to be in the water. The cold water is what really keeps the attrition rate high. The idea is to limit the amount of physical discomforts from stacking up on you psychologically,so you never even think about ringing the bell. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare.

I was a Paratrooper and served in SF which is no where close to BUDS I ran 10 miles on average with my Platoon in the morning and another 5-10 on my own after work just to keep up thats just the Infantry. My Platoon had a pull up bar in front of our office and there is alot of time when you don't have shit to do. We filled that time with standing in front of a pull up bar doing push-ups and pull ups all day long till it got stupid. We did morning PT went to breakfast and just went to the pull up bar and did that shit all day long. PT in the Infantry is constant. In BUDS it's like that times ten. None of that counts when you get smoked for screwing up.

Getting in ice cold showers DEFINITELY helps you to become mentally stronger and deal with being in the cold longer and everything. There's so many good things from taking ice cold showers and ice baths. Buds isn't anything compared to being fired at and freezing out but your ADRENALINE is what will keep you warm and in the zone. You just need to know how to take control of your adrenaline and breath slowly and things will look slow motion and feel like you can react way faster and can see everything visually clearer and hear any and all little sounds. Be able to scan around with your eyes and then have PERFECT visual imprint of your surroundings in your head.
